Text: Revelation 4:9-11
Memory text:
“Thou art worthy, O Lord, to receive glory and honour and power: for thou hast created all things, and for thy pleasure they are and were created.” (Rev 4:11 KJV).
A man who had some personal staff noticed that most of them were serving him with selfish motives – only for what they would gain from him. In fact, after every seemingly faithful service, they returned later to demand for “compensation”. However, he noticed one who stood out among all of them. He served with a genuine heart. He never made any demands for himself. Instead, his pleasure was to see his boss happy and satisfied. He always went the extra mile to meet his needs. Even when he didn’t realize he needed some things that would be helpful to him, he persuaded his boss to have them. He encouraged him to rest whenever he overstretched himself. Most often, when he offered to share some gifts he received with him, he refused and said, “No, it’s for you, sir. You need it sir”. When he insisted that he didn’t need it, the staff replied again, “Take it home. Your children will need it.” He was not pretending but just loving. His boss’ pleasure was his pleasure!
One day, his boss made up his mind to surprise him in a big way, and he did. He continued to surprise him, even after.
That is also what happens when you make the pleasure of God your goal. When God enjoys you, His favour flows through you. What you give God in worship, He multiplies back into your life. You cannot bless God and remain unblessed (Jam 4:8).
Honour unlocks honour. (1 Sam. 2:30)
Our memory text shows that worship is the breath of a soul returning to its Maker. You were made first for God, not for tasks. God created us for His pleasure, therefore, worship helps us to fulfill our purpose, as His creations. When you worship during fasting, you are literally doing what you were made for. Worship is the highest expression of love. Fasting denies the flesh; worship delights the Father. God delights in our affection more than our sacrifice (Psa 149:4).
“They are my own people, and I created them to bring me glory.” (Isa 43:7 GNT). The CEV says, “I created each of them to bring honour to me.”
Worship is not what you do for God but why you were created. The fish is created to swim, the bird to fly, and a believer to worship – for God’s glory and honour.
Friends, worship during fasting is a mark of honour. Anyone can fast, but only true lovers can fast primarily for God’s pleasure.
Prayer points
1. Father, tune my heart to true worship and let me always be lost in worship of You, in Jesus’ name.
2. Father, help me to raise You above any other desire and to fulfill my purpose of creation, in Jesus’ name.
Today’s declarations
1. I forget myself and any other need as I worship my Maker. My empty stomach and my full heart of worship delight Him.
2. When God enjoys me, His favour flows through me. What I give God in worship, He multiplies back into my life.
