ALONE WITH GOD (2)

ALONE WITH GOD (2)

Text: Genesis 32:22-32
Memory verse:
“Then Jacob was left alone; and a Man wrestled with him until the breaking of day.”
‭‭Genesis‬ ‭32‬:‭24‬

Why do you, sometimes, shut the door or leave your regular environment to a solitary place whenever you want to have a discussion with someone? Why do you think some high political leaders and CEOs travel hundreds of kilometers outside the country just to hold a private meeting? Some, even deliberately fix their meeting for the late night hours. The answer is simple. The seriousness of a meeting is often demonstrated by the level of privacy put into it or the level of distractions and interruptions that are cut off from it. It is also a mark of respect to the personality involved in the discussion.
This is the same reasoning behind being alone with God. To be alone with God is to withdraw from the public or busy activities to share fellowship with the most important personality in one’s life and in the universe. It is to put away distractions and interruptions which often accompany public and noisy environment. Jesus, our pattern, did this throughout His earthly ministry (Mark 6:45-46; Luke 6:12; 9:18; 22:41).
Now, in our text today, Jacob demonstrated the seriousness of his planned meeting with God by what he did. He sent away his family, including Rachel, the love of his life, whom he served and suffered for and for fourteen years to have; and all the goods he had acquired! “And he arose that night and took his two wives, his two female servants, and his eleven sons, and crossed over the ford of Jabbok. He took them, sent them over the brook, and sent over what he had. Then Jacob was left alone; and a Man wrestled with him until the breaking of day.” ‭‭(Gen‬ ‭32‬:‭22‬ -‭ 24‬).
Friends, don’t you think that God should be respected enough to be given 100% attention by switching off your cell phones; waking up early before the daylight; and going to a quiet place?

Prayer points
1. Father, please, help me to give my private communion 100% attention and to build strong intimacy with You in Jesus name.
2. Father, please, let not my public life overshadow my private life with You in Jesus name.

Today’s declarations
1. God is the most important personality in my life so I separate myself from everything to be alone with Him.
2. I respect God by shutting out all distractions and interruptions to be alone with Him.
