Text: Matthew 6:31-34
Memory verse:
”For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.“
Matthew 6:21 NKJV
Today, we will consider the next category of ungrateful people. These are the too-busy-to-serve people. They always excuse their ingratitude with busyness. But the truth is that the ingratitude is a manifestation of an underlying spiritual disease rather than busy work. For example, a believer who has become worldly will always set his mind on earthly things rather than the heavenly. “”Set your mind on things above, not on things on the earth.“ (Col 3:2).
Things of God will no longer interest them nor will they keep them at heart. According to the golden rule, we often go the extra mile to do things that are important to us but excuse things we consider as unimportant. You see, such people challenge any excuse to attend a social event but find one thousand and one reasons why they can’t be available for spiritual meetings! Sometimes, I wonder if such people who are always in haste and so time conscious during spiritual meetings are the same ones who are so relaxed, unhasty and at rest at social gatherings! People create time and travel frequently to attend business and political meetings, spend hours in the meeting, even attending meetings at night time and odd times. Sometimes, they spend money that they don’t have just to be part of such meetings and for any other thing except spiritual things. You see, it simply means that serving God or eternal things are not such people’s priority. They treasure earthly gains and friendships more than eternal gains and kingdom friendships. Jesus revealed this truth here, “for where your treasure is, there your heart [your wishes, your desires; that on which your life centers] will be also” (Matt 6:21 AMP).
Have you been using busyness as your excuse for not serving your Maker? No, there is a deeper spiritual problem. In fact, God never uses lazy people. “God never goes to the lazy or to the idle when he needs men for His service. When He has work to be done, He goes to those who are already at work. When God wants a servant, He calls a busy person”.
Friends, return to God, challenge your excuses and serve the Lord with gladness.
