Text: James 4:6-7
Memory verse:
“Therefore submit to God. Resist the devil and he will flee from you.” James 4:7
Sometimes ago, while we were discussing with our guests in the yard, our dog became so rude, as it continued to bark persistently. I tried to calm it by speaking to it in a soft voice but the dog was unyielding. I tried to pet it and it seemed worse. I could have ignored it since it was inside its kennel but the noise was deafening. So I got angry and turned to it and with a raised voice, I said, “Trace, will you shut up now!” And immediately, Trace became silent throughout our discussion till our guests left.
Friends, you see, the devil won’t yield until you assert your authority over him. The devil is tricky and will want to override your authority and to make you believe that you don’t have such authority. He acts stubbornly and won’t instantly give up on you until you stand your ground. He wants to ruin your life, steal your joy and snuff life out of you (1 Pet 5:8 & John 10:10). You got to resist him with your authority in Christ.
“…Resist the devil and he will flee from you.” James 4:7
To resist is to withstand, to stand your ground, to oppose or to strive against. It is by standing your ground that you overcome the devil. The devil will not ordinarily flee until you resist him. When you keep asserting your authority over the devil on that issue and keep standing firm in your faith, you will eventually see the devourer bowing and fleeing from you.
Prayer points
1. I resist the devil in (mention the specific area of your life) and I demand that you flee from me now in Jesus name.
2. I stand firm against all attempts of the devil to steal my testimony in Jesus name.
