Memory verse:
āLet us hold fast the confession of our hope without wavering, for He who promised is faithful.ā

There are football fans who talk so much about matches and analyze it but never play. They approve and condemn the actions of the footballers on the field. Even though they know so much about the game, some of them have never played in any match nor can even play. They are mere talkers and not doers.
Likewise, there are many talkers about Godās word in the church today. They preach it, teach it, analyze it and sometimes, they even counsel others with it, but they never practice it. They have no doubt that the Word of God is true, but they donāt ever do them. They only have mental assent of the Word.
Our text today shows that it is not the storms of life that defeat a person but our reactions to the storms. You see, the storms came on both of the houses but one fell down flat and the other stood firm. The reason that the house built on sand was destroyed is that it was not built on the solid foundation of Godās Word. He was likened to an unwise man who hears the Word, talks about it and knows that itās true, but he never practices it. He was just a talker. The one built on the rock whose house was not destroyed was likened to a wise builder. He was a doer and practitioner of Godās Word, not mere talker of it.
Mere talkers of Godās Word fall under the pressure of the storms of life because they are not practicing the instructions of Godās Word. They only have the Word in their heads and not in their spirits. They are defeated by the same trouble that others stand strong in. Though they are believers but they donāt have corresponding actions to go with their faith.
The storms of life come to everyone. For example, while others use their senses and set aside the instructions of the Word when they face the storm of sickness, others stand their ground and refuse to give in and do not accept the sickness. Whether it be health, marital, career, academic, or financial storm, your standing will depend on how you are able to practice the instructions of the Word in the midst of the storm. This is the reason why some come out of a huge financial debt, while another sinks in it and never recovers.
Friends, if you know that God canāt fail and wonāt fail you, you will hold fast to your confessions in the midst of the storms of life. Donāt be a talker but a doer!
