Text: Matthew 5:13-16
Memory verse:
”“You are the salt of the earth; but if the salt loses its flavor, how shall it be seasoned? It is then good for nothing but to be thrown out and trampled underfoot by men.“
Matthew 5:13 NKJV
Character is like a stamp. It doesn’t change with location. It will constantly leave its distinctive impression or mark on anywhere it is used, unless the image or impression on the stamp is first changed.
Character is reflected in the journey of one’s life in the past, present, and future. It is the librarian of your past, the speaker of your present, and the prophet of your future.
Your character is your best identity. “Yes, just as you can identify a tree by its fruit, so you can identify people by their actions.” (Matt 7.20 NLT).
It is the best revealer of your future. “Look at those who are honest and good, for a wonderful future awaits those who love peace.” (Psa 37:37 NLT).
Believers are likened to the salt.
“You are the salt for everyone on earth. But if salt no longer tastes like salt, how can it make food salty? All it is good for is to be thrown out and walked on.” (Matt 5:13 CEV).
When we got saved through Christ, we were transformed from being part of the decayed, corrupt, and diseased world. We escaped the corruption that is in the world (2 Peter 1:4).
As salt adds taste to food, so do the believers add ‘taste’ to the world. Believers make the world pleasant to dwell in. The quantity of salt required to give taste to a pot of soup is insignificantly small in relation to the quantity of the soup. Likewise, one believer with a godly character in the midst of a group of corrupt people has the potential to influence them positively. The believer is a living influence and hope giver in the world. A world without believers will be inhabitable, diseased, and useless!
What happens when salt loses its taste also happens when a believer loses his or her godly character. You will see no difference between the believer and the world because his or her ability to influence the world would have been lost. Such a believer has lost his or her life’s purpose and may be in danger of eternal damnation, except there is a change!
Friend, be a person of godly influence wherever you go. Don’t bend or blend with the world. You are the hope of your world. Carry yourselves with the consciousness that you are the salt of the world! Receive grace to be a godly influence in your workplace, family, school, and wherever God has positioned you today, in Jesus’ name.
Prayer points
1. Father, thank You for delivering me from the corruption of the world and transforming me to be the salt of the world.
2. I receive grace to be a godly influence and a living hope to my world, in Jesus’ name.
Today’s declarations
1. I am the salt of the world, a godly influence and living hope.
2. I won’t bend or blend with the world; I won’t lose my character in the midst of the corruption of the world.
