Text: Number 14:20-24

“For he who has entered His rest has himself also ceased from his works as God did from His.”
‭‭Hebrews‬ ‭4‬:‭10‬ ‭NKJV‬‬

Do you know that your health, your well-being, your financial prosperity, your marital bliss, your peace, and all the rest of the blessings were paid for over 2000 years ago through the finished work of Christ? (Rev 13:8). God knows that it may be very difficult for you to see or touch them, so He tells you to simply believe it. Believing helps you to bring them from the realm of the unseen to the realm of reality. Thus, working to earn blessing is an insult on the Spirit of grace.
According to our text today, the ten tribes rebelled against God and refused to believe Him, after returning from the visit to the land, even though God had already given them the land before they went (Jos 1:3). God then swore that they won’t enter into His rest anymore. “So I swore in My wrath, ‘They shall not enter My rest.’ ” ‭‭(Psa‬ ‭95‬:‭11‬)‬‬. This is what Numbers 14:23 describes as “…the land of which I swore to their fathers”. Paul also referred to it in Hebrews 4: 3, “For we who have believed do enter that rest, as He has said: “So I swore in My wrath, ‘They shall not enter My rest,’ ” although the works were finished from the foundation of the world.”.
This rest is a place. To the Israelites, it was the place that God promised them. “So it shall be, when the Lord your God brings you into the land of which He swore to your fathers, to Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, to give you large and beautiful cities which you did not build, houses full of all good things, which you did not fill, hewn-out wells which you did not dig, vineyards and olive trees which effluent you did not plant—when you have eaten and are full—” ‭‭(Deut‬ ‭6‬:‭10‬-‭11‬)‬‬.
Did you notice that? The good things were already provided before they got to the land and not through their efforts. It was a place of finished work. Those older generations who disbelieved God were kept from entering that rest. And God brought in the younger generation whom they thought were too young and would perish in the land.
Friends, the finished work of Christ is the place of rest, and it is only accessible by faith. Although the Lamb of God was slain from the foundation of the world, yet the people couldn’t access the finished work by their works. Now, those who believe do enter into that rest and have also ceased from their works.

Prayer points
1. Father, please, help me to live by faith daily lest I shut myself from Your rest in Jesus’ name.
2. Father, I believe the sacrifice of Jesus. Please double my blessings now in Jesus’ name.
