Text: Exodus 10:21-26
Memory verse:
”Beloved, I pray that you may prosper in all things and be in health, just as your soul prospers.“
III John 1:2 NKJV
One of the strategies of the devil is to deceive the believers to think that it is evil to be rich and to eventually attack them financially. This wrong belief brought reproach to the church to the extent that poverty became her identity, thus the saying, “As old as a church mouse”.
God’s will for you is to be blessed in all things, that is, spiritually, financially, materially and family wise. “Beloved, I pray that you may prosper in all things and be in health, just as your soul prospers.“ (III John 1:2).
Did you notice that? “…that you may prosper IN ALL THINGS”. Abraham was blessed, not only spiritually but in all things. He had wealth and health. He had family blessings and a great influence. ”Now Abraham was old, well advanced in age; and the Lord had blessed Abraham in all things.“ (Gen 24:1). His servant spoke of his greatness in Genesis 24:35.
What about Job? Job 1:1-3 describes his all-round blessings. He was spiritually blessed: blameless and upright; feared God and stayed away from evil. He was blessed family wise: had seven sons and three daughters and a large household. He was also blessed financially and materially: he was the richest man among all the people of the East.
What about Philemon? (Philem 1:1-2). He was a slave owner. In those days, it was a legitimate business, and only rich people could do it. He was wealthy and influential, yet a minister of God. His wife, Apphia, and his son, Archippus, were also ministers (Col 4:17). They also had a church in their house (Philem 1:22). What all-round blessings!
According to our text, if the devil does not succeed in holding your children and household in sin and bondage, he renegotiates to hold your finances into captivity. He says, “Okay, you may serve the Lord, but I will run your business down, keep you out of job or I will just impoverish you”.
When Pharaoh discovered that he didn’t succeed with the first offer, he offered to free their families but hold back their wealth. “You may go and worship the LORD; even your women and children may go with you. But your sheep, goats, and cattle must stay here.” (Exo 10:24 GNT).
Satan wants you to be impoverished serving the Lord. He comes to attack the believers’ financial life.
Friends, God’s salvation package in Christ Jesus is for you to be blessed in all things. Having known this truth, resist the devil in your finances and stand firm in your faith.
