Text: John 20:21-23
Memory verse:
“Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who according to His abundant mercy has begotten us again to a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead,” I Peter 1:3
No matter how badly someone may want machines to replace man, God will never insert a soul into a machine. Robots don’t have the breathe of God and don’t have a soul (Gen 2:7 KJV).
Machines don’t have will power and are not sinners and therefore don’t need to be born again. Christ suffered and died for the sins of human beings, not robots. He resurrected into a new life to also give man a new life and a new beginning. “And when He had said this, He breathed on them, and said to them, “Receive the Holy Spirit.”
John 20:22).
Recall that few days prior to His death, Jesus promised that the new covenant would be established in His blood (Matt 26:28). This new covenant was put in effect at His resurrection. According to Ezekiel 36:26-27, this new covenant which God had earlier promised would involve recreating a new heart and putting the Spirit of God in man. Jesus referred to this recreation by God’s Spirit in His conversation with Nicodemus (John 3:3-6). To be born again is to be born of the Spirit.
It was the breathe of God, His Spirit, that created Adam, the first living soul or being. Physical life for the human race began when God breathed into Adam and he received the breath of life. Spiritual life begins for us when we are born from above, and God breathes His Holy Spirit in us. This is what happened to the disciples in John 20:22. They became born again – new creations (2 Cor 5:17).
Jesus was raised to open up a new destiny for all who believe in Him. “…by His great mercy that we have been born again, because God raised Jesus Christ from the dead. Now we live with great expectation,” (1 Pet 1:3 NLT) The past is blotted out, all things are made new and we are born again with new hope and new expectations. Hallelujah! Have you also experienced that new life? Believe in the Lord Jesus and accept His sacrifice for your salvation now.
