CAN A BELIEVER BE POSSESSED?

CAN A BELIEVER BE POSSESSED?

Text: Mark 1:23-26
Memory text:
“And what agreement has the temple of God with idols? For you are the temple of the living God. As God has said: “I will dwell in them And walk among them. I will be their God, And they shall be My people.””
‭‭II Corinthians‬ ‭6‬:‭16‬ ‭NKJV‬‬

A true believer cannot be possessed by demons. Who is a true believer? One who has personally accepted the redemptive work of Jesus, confessed Him as Lord and Saviour, and has renounced satan. This is in contrast with someone who is playing religion or who only has a religious reform but not a heart reform. Salvation is not inherited but a personal experience. “And you also became God’s people when you heard the true message, the Good News that brought you salvation. You believed in Christ, and God put His stamp of ownership on you by giving you the Holy Spirit He had promised” (Eph 1:13 GNB). God’s stamp of ownership is on you, and satan can’t claim you anymore. Dual ownership is not possible! Hallelujah!
Once you are born again and are filled with the Holy Spirit, evil spirit cannot dwell in you anymore. You already belong to God and cannot belong to satan at the same time ( 2 Cor 6:16). You see, you cannot be possessed because the Holy Spirit and demons cannot co-habit the same temple! ‭‭(I Cor‬ ‭6‬:‭19‬). You have been signed and sealed as God’s.
In contrast, an unbeliever or an unsaved person can be possessed by demons. A heart that is not filled with the Holy Spirit is vulnerable to demonic possession (Matt 12:43-45). A person is possessed when one or more demons inhabit the body of the person and completely control the victim at will. (Mark 5:1-2; Mark 9:17-18; Mark 1:23-24).
A person can be willingly or unwillingly possessed of demons. So as to be able to invoke a curse, spell or jinx; to communicate with the dead or spirits; to become a witch or to just have some supernatural powers, some have asked to be taken over by demonic powers. Some desired these powers to be able to punish their offenders or to dominate people. Unwilling possession may take place through sinful thoughts, actions, contacts, associations, or feasting. It may also result from inheritance through generational sins (Exo 34:7).
Friends, for a believer to be possessed by demons, he would have departed from the faith and lost the Holy Spirit. To depart from the faith is to be exposed to demonic possession. Beware!

Prayer points
1. Father, thank You for saving me, dwelling in me, and sealing me by Your Holy Spirit.
2. I renounce demonic powers and generational sins, and I dissociate myself from them, in Jesus’ name.

Today’s declarations
1. I can’t be possessed by demons because my body is the temple of the Holy Spirit, and both can’t cohabit the same house.
2. I wisely avoid sinful thoughts, actions, evil associations, contacts, or feasting lest I make myself vulnerable to demonic possession.
