Text: 2 Kings 20:1-6
Memory text:
“He asked life from You, and You gave it to him— Length of days forever and ever.”
Psalms 21:4 NKJV
Wrong believing is dangerous. Some people think that no one can do anything about how long one lives since it has already been decided.
It’s just like asking why one needs to pray for protection when God has already made provision for it. Yes, longevity is part of our covenant blessing, yet we need to ask for it. “Now this is the confidence that we have in Him, that if we ask anything according to His will, He hears us.”
(I John 5:14). The AMP says, “…that if we ask anything according to His will, [that is, consistent with His plan and purpose] He hears us”. You see, God wants you to ask, but you must ask what His will is for you; what is consistent with His plan and purpose.
Now, is long life consistent with His plans for your life? Yes, look at this promise. “Now as for you, you shall go to your fathers in peace; you shall be buried at a good old age.” (Gen 15:15). Someone may argue that this was for Abram, but hear what the scripture says. “So if you belong to Christ, you are now part of Abraham’s family, and you will be given what God has promised.” (Gal 3:29 CEV). You see, by the covenant of Abraham, which is sealed with the blood of Christ, you can’t die prematurely! Being in Christ gives you legal access into that covenant promise (2 Cor 1:20). Unlike the Mosaic law that pronounced death, Jesus, the mediator and high priest after the order of Melchizedek, pronounces life and blessing. You are no longer under the curse of untimely death.
God has promised to fulfill the number of your years. (Exo 23.26b). He will keep away from you the things that are capable of reducing your life. In other words, no sickness, disease, plague, accident, disaster or the wickedness of men will be able to kill you before your time. Hallelujah! Sickness reduces healthy lives gradually until life is wasted.
He also adds that He will satisfy us with long life (Psa 91:16). If you know what it means not to be satisfied and then to be satisfied after eating, then you will understand what it is to be satisfied with long life. David prayed for this state (Psa 71:18). It is the stage when your visions and goals have been fulfilled. When you can look back and say I have seen all I have asked of the Lord concerning my life, family, ministry, nation, and so forth. Simeon achieved it (Luke 2:29-30).
Friends, are you a child of God? Believe no other, be it prophecy, dream or vision outside these truth. Longevity is your covenant right. Glory!
