Text: Genesis 3:1-13
Memory text:
“Fear not, for I am with you; Be not dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you, Yes, I will help you, I will uphold you with My righteous right hand.’”
Isaiah 41:10 NKJV
Let us consider two reasons why people fear today.
Firstly, when there is sin in a person, fear will certainly occur. He fears having his sins exposed and the punishment that will come. According to our text, Adam and Eve were afraid and hid from God because of their sin. The scriptures say, “Wicked people run away when no one chases them, but those who live right are as brave as lions.” (Prov 28:1 CEV). Right living builds an inner boldness and makes you fearless. Some years ago, a few weeks after I retired from my government job, I received a call from an unknown person who claimed that he was calling from the government anti-corruption agency. He went further to say that the agency had received petitions of corruption against me and that I should get in touch with him for other information. I laughed at his threats, and I didn’t think about it, nor did I lose my sleep concerning it for a moment. I knew I didn’t do anything fraudulent during my time in the office to fear any investigation.
Secondly, some fear because they think they are alone, helpless, and defenseless. As the airplane flew across the pacific, the pilot announced that they were in a bad storm and that everyone should fasten their seat belts. One air hostess woke up a deep sleeping little girl and told her to sit up also. As the girl sat up, she asked, “Is my dad still at the cockpit? “ The hostess responded, “Yes, he is”. Immediately, rather than being afraid and restless like other passengers, she reclined her seat and slept back! She believed that as long as her father was the pilot, she was safe and had no reason whatsoever to be afraid! What better assurance of God’s presence and protection we have!
The assurance that the Almighty God is with us should trigger fearlessness in any situation. God said, “Fear not, for I am with you..” (Isa 40:11). The ‘I AM’, said, “Fear not”. He told the Israelites,
““When you go out to battle against your enemies and see horses and chariots and people more numerous than you, do not be afraid of them; for the Lord your God is with you…” (Deut 20:1). Even with earthquakes and disasters, David said, “..we will not fear” because “The Lord of Hosts is with us; …” (Psa 46:2, 7).
Friends, if the Holy Spirit reminds you of any sin in your life, confess and renounce it immediately and, don’t return to it. Also, be assured that you are never alone, that the Almighty is with you, and that fear will disappear.
Today’s prayer
1. Father, I confess, renounce, and forsake every known or unknown sin in my life, in Jesus’ name.
2. Father, please, let the assurance of Your presence with me drive away all forms of fears from me, in Jesus’ name.
Today’s declarations
1. Right living builds inner courage in me and makes me fearless.
2. I am not helpless, defenseless, or fearful because I know that the Almighty God is with me.
