Text: Matthew 6:22-23
Memory verse:
”speaking lies in hypocrisy, having their own conscience seared with a hot iron,“ I Timothy 4:2 NKJV
Every car has a windshield wiper at the front and sometimes, another at the rear. The wipers clear away dirts, leaves, insects, or road grime that are on the windshield, helping to maintain visibility. Also, as cars pass, the tyres spray upon the windshield some road grime. These can decrease visibility when driving and put your safety at risk. So, the wipers draw water from the fluid reservoir in the hood to clean and clear the windshield. They keep you safe when driving because you can see the road more clearly.
Likewise, your conscience is like a windshield. It is the window of the believer’s spirit. The light of heaven shines through it so that the spirit and his whole being are filled with light.
The conscience is also like the eye of the spirit. Just like a person becomes blind or vision impaired, when the eye lens becomes clouded, obscuring light from entering, so the conscience becomes ‘blind’ to the light of heaven when it is clouded with sins. ”Your eyes are a window for your body. When they are good, you have all the light you need“ (Matt 6:22 CEV).
As your physical eyes are windows of your body, so is your conscience the window of your spirit.
If you want to walk according to the spirit and be pleasing to God, you must ensure that the windshield and the eye lens of your conscience are cleaned always so that the heavenly light will penetrate and you will see well in the journey of life. The heavenly light shines through the conscience to expose its wrongdoings and expose its failures anytime you think, talk, or do something that is not good or not befitting the proper conduct of a believer.
The heavenly light shines brighter and brighter in the conscience as you allow the conscience to work, as you submit to it and as you remove or resolve everything it condemns. Otherwise, the stains will cloud it to produce a seared and defiled conscience (1 Tim 4:2: Titus 1:15).
Friends, a regularly cleaned conscience will guarantee your safety in the journey of eternity.
Prayer points
1. Father, let me never stumble, nor my faith suffer shipwreck in the journey of life, in Jesus’ name.
2. Father, I receive grace to always maintain a sensitive, healthy, strong, and undefiled conscience in Jesus’ name.
Today’s declarations
1. The heavenly light shines into my conscience to expose my wrongs easily because I don’t allow sins to dull and blind it.
2. As I promptly respond to the rebukes of my conscience, so does my conscience become more sensitive.
