DESIRE A LONG AND GOOD LIFE

DESIRE A LONG AND GOOD LIFE

Text: Psalms 128:1-6
Memory text:
“Who is the man who desires life, And loves many days, that he may see good?” ‭‭
Psa‬lms ‭34‬:‭12‬ NKJV

Do you know that some people don’t desire long life? They don’t ever pray to attain old age because they believe that long life on earth is associated with sickness and all forms of trouble. These, they believe, make the aged person depend on others to continue to live. Thus, the future fear of declining health turns off such desire from them.
Some also believe that they have already lived a fulfilling life and they have no reason to desire longer years. They believe quality is better than quantity, and they don’t see how anyone can achieve both.
No, long life and good life are part of your covenant blessing. It’s not God’s plan to give you one and to hold back the other. That’s the work of the devil. He wants to pervert the blessing of God, so you don’t desire it. He loves to change good things into bad (Matt 13:24-25).
Our memory text addresses the fears raised above. Firstly, God expects you to have a desire. Even though God has a good plan for you, He still expects you to express your desire to Him (‭‭Psa‬ ‭20:4; 37‬:‭4‬). Desire is expressed by asking. “You have given him his heart’s desire, And have not withheld the request of his lips. Selah” (‭‭Psa‬ ‭21‬:‭2‬).
Secondly, God’s plan for you is a long life and a good life. Length of days is His plan for you. He has also planned that you will enjoy that long life. Long life, accompanied by pains and griefs, is a cursed life. ““No more shall an infant from there live but a few days, Nor an old man who has not fulfilled his days; For the child shall die one hundred years old, But the sinner being one hundred years old shall be accursed.” (‭‭Isa‬ ‭65‬:‭20‬).
Did you see this? A sinner is someone who has not received the forgiveness that comes through faith in Christ (Rom 3:24; Eph 1:7). The sinner’s old age is cursed, but the righteous old age is blessed!
As God’s covenant child, God will not only add years to your life, but He will also add life to your years. Our text today speaks of the man who fears God. He will live long and healthy enough to eat the fruits of his labour. He will be prosperous and happy, and things will just go well with him on all sides, even with his wife and children! What a happy life!
Friends, don’t let any bad memories, experience or wrong beliefs cause you to lose your covenant blessing. Are you a child of God? A long and good life is your inheritance. Lay hold of it today. Hallelujah!
