Text: Matthew 25:34-45
Memory text:
“This is a faithful saying, and these things I want you to affirm constantly, that those who have believed in God should be careful to maintain good works. These things are good and profitable to men.”
â€â€Titus‬ â€3‬:â€8‬ â€NKJV‬‬
There is a story about an 8-year-old boy from an extremely poor family who lived in the inner city. One day, he stood by a local store, looking through the glass window and admiring a pair of tennis shoes. As he stood there, cold and barefoot, a lady came and said, “Young man, what are you doing staring so intensely into this window?” Fearfully and shyly, he said, “Well, I was just sort of praying and asking God if He could give me a new pair of tennis shoes.” Then, without hesitation, the woman took him into the store and very gently and lovingly washed his cold, dirty feet. Then she put a brand new pair of socks on him and told him to pick out three new pairs of tennis shoes. He couldn’t believe it. He was so excited. He had never owned a new pair of shoes. He had always worn hand-me-downs.
After the woman paid for the purchases, she returned to the little boy. He looked at her in disbelief. Nobody had ever taken that kind of interest in him. With tears running down his cheeks, he said, “Lady, can I ask you a question? Are you God’s wife?”
“Therefore by their fruits you will know them.” â€â€(Matt‬ â€7‬:â€20‬).
People won’t know us by how many bumper stickers we have, how often we attend church, or how loud we pray. Rather, they will know that we are true believers when we meet real needs by doing good work.
Jesus sees any kindness done to any of the little ones as being done to Him. God also sees giving to the poor as lending to Him (Prov 19:17).
If you have much money, you have endless opportunities to do good work and build your account in heaven (1 Tim 6:18-19). You aren’t disadvantaged because you are not rich, either. You can do good by acts of kindness. You can choose to be a mentor to someone who doesn’t have a positive role model in his life. You will need to sacrifice time, energy, and yourself. You can show love and care to one who is hurting or give encouragement to your colleague or neighbour who is about to give up. Join the prison outreach team to visit, pray, and encourage the inmates. Give a helping hand to that weak child, burdened parent, single parent, and that nursing mother. Listen to someone who feels unheard.
Friends, generosity isn’t about the size of your bank account but the size of your heart. Kindness costs nothing, yet its value is beyond measure. You don’t need a full wallet to make a difference — just a willing heart.
Prayer points
1. Father, teach me to be generous not only with resources but with my time, talents, and attention in Jesus’ name.
2. Father, let my actions reflect Your love so that people may see You in me, in Jesus’ name.
Today’s declarations
1. My life is a sermon of kindness, and through me, people will experience the love of Christ.
2. I do good, touching lives with my money. I also do good and meet real needs by freely sharing my time, talents, and prayers.
