Text: Mark 5:21-28
Memory text:
“So Jesus stood still and commanded him to be called. Then they called the blind man, saying to him, “Be of good cheer. Rise, He is calling you.””
Mark 10:49 NKJV
You must embrace divine interruptions in your life if you want to be a blessing. A divine interruption is when God allows an unexpected event, encounter, or detour to break into your plans. It’s not to hinder you but to position you for His greater purpose.
Though Jesus was so busy and always had places He wanted to go and things He wanted to do, yet He always took out time for people. He often allowed Himself to be interrupted so that He could do good for someone in need. He was always willing to change His plans to do good for somebody else. His compassion was greater than His schedule. Love made Him interruptible. Love is never too busy to stop. Plans are important, but people are more important.
On one occasion, Jesus had just crossed over to the other side of the sea, and a great crowd gathered around Him to be taught by Him and with different needs. In the midst of this, a ruler of the synagogue came to Him and begged Him to come over to his house to heal his daughter, who was at the point of death. So, He changed His plans, and immediately, He rose up and went with him (Mark 5:24). While on the way again, a woman with the issue of blood came behind and touched His garment. He stopped, gave her attention, confirmed her healing, and affirmed her faith (Mark 5:25-34).
On another occasion, while He was on His way out of Jericho, a noisy crowd was around Him, yet Jesus stopped when Bartimaeus cried out. He didn’t only allow him to interrupt His journey, He changed His pace to give sight to one man.
What about when He broke His scheduled rest time to show compassion and feed the hungry multitude! What about how He stopped by in Samaria, though traveling to Galilee and got so engrossed with speaking with one broken woman, changing her life — and through her, touching her entire town!
When they tried to bring little children to Jesus, the disciples said, “No, don’t bother Him. He’s busy. You can’t interrupt Him.” Jesus stopped His disciples and received them.
It’s easy to get caught up in our own little world and focus only on ourselves. “I’ve my plans. Don’t get me out of my schedule. Don’t interrupt my program.” Instead, make out time for people. Don’t miss any opportunity to do good. Make a difference in someone’s life.
Friends, like Jesus, you must be interruptible if you want to be useful in God’s hands.
Prayer points
1. Father, help me to discern between distractions from the enemy and divine interruptions from You; let me know when to pause and when to press on, in Jesus’ name.
2. Father, give me a heart that values people over schedules and let my steps be ordered by You, even when it means unexpected turns, in Jesus’ name.
Today’s declarations
1. I see divine interruptions not as accidents but invitations; not as inconveniences, but opportunities to love. I value people and God’s will more than my own agenda.
2. My greatness is not measured by keeping to my plans but by being willing to pause for people. A schedule guides my day, but compassion guides my heart.
