Text: 1 Samuel 3:1-10
Memory verse:
”Your ears shall hear a word behind you, saying, “This is the way, walk in it,” whenever you turn to the right hand or whenever you turn to the left.“ Isaiah 30:21 NKJV
A brother, who had boarded an eighteen-seater commuter bus to resume at school, discovered that he had just been kidnapped as the driver suddenly turned off from the highway into the bush path. When the passengers raised their voices, the man who acted as the bus conductor brought a rifle, shut them down, and threatened to waste the life of anyone who dared to be stubborn. Everyone became silent. On getting to the kidnappers’ den, they were asked to sit on the ground in the bush, collected their handsets, and the kidnappers sat at the opposite side, watching them. The kidnappers made true their threat as a woman who raised her voice was shot down there, creating greater fear in the hearts of the rest. Having sat for hours and in the midst of this dread, this brother said he heard a voice that called his name and commanded him to stand up and run. He said, he thought to himself that it was unreasonable to attempt such in that circumstance. The voice called his name again and said, ” I am your father, I said, stand up now and run for your life”. Still reluctant until the voice came the third time when he decided to obey. He stood up, took his backpack, walked out, and began to run towards the bush. To his surprise, none of the kidnappers questioned him or stopped him as he walked out. The Sovereign Lord had obviously turned their wisdom into foolishness and blinded them (Isa 44:25). He kept running into the bush until he met a man at midnight in a little village, who led him to the highway in the morning to escape.
Some think that God only speaks to us today through the inner witness. No, God sometimes, especially when He wants to get our quick attention, speaks to us through audible voice. Saul heard an audible voice, which said to him, “Saul, Saul, why are you persecuting Me?” (Acts 9:4). When he asked who was speaking to him, Jesus also responded audibly such that ”…the men who journeyed with him stood speechless, hearing a voice but seeing no one.“ (Acts 9:7). It was so loud that the people around heard! Also,God sometimes speaks audibly when the individual is inexperienced in spiritual discernment, and He needs to pass a message to him, like He did to Samuel in our text.
Friends, while you should not always wait for an audible voice, yet, don’t limit God on how He can speak. He can speak audibly and personally to you, but only be sure to confirm if the voice is in agreement with the Word of God.
Prayer points
1. Father, please, let me never miss Your voice when You speak to me, in Jesus’ name.
2. Father, please guide me through my life’s journeys, so I will be delivered from evil men in Jesus’ name.
Today’s declarations
1. I am open to God to speak to me in any form He chooses, be it an inner witness or an audible voice.
2. I escape the errors of hearing strange voices when I test every voice with the Word of God.
