DON’T REJOICE OVER ME

DON’T REJOICE OVER ME

Text: 2 Samuel 19:14-23
Memory verse:
”Do not rejoice over me, my enemy; When I fall, I will arise; When I sit in darkness, The Lord will be a light to me.“ ‭‭ Micah‬ ‭7‬:‭8‬

One of the greatest pains that David had was when his own son revolted against him and overthrew him. Then, David and his men fled from Jerusalem in dismay. In the midst of that humiliation, a Benjamite, from the house of Saul, came after David, cursing him, pelting stones at him and his men and accusing him of killing Saul. He mocked him and alleged that his trouble was a repercussion of Saul’s killing (2 Sam 16:5-11).
It was obvious that Shimei had been envious of David and nursing bitterness against him before then and probably for being chosen to replace Saul as king. It could also be that Shimei lost some business favours and opportunities that he had enjoyed under Saul’s reign. Whichever, this travail of David only revealed Shimei’s bitterness and anger, which he had been harboring. Shimei rejoiced over David’s affliction and thought it would be his end. ”But in my adversity they rejoiced And gathered together; Attackers gathered against me, And I did not know it; They tore at me and did not cease;“ (‭‭Psa‬ ‭35‬:‭15‬).
Shimei was wrong. His expectations failed and his despicable character was revealed. He thought David wouldn’t ever have a comeback to the throne. ”Who is he who speaks, and it comes to pass when the Lord has not commanded it?“ ‭‭(Lam‬ ‭3‬:‭37).
David had a comeback. Absalom pursued after David in his exile and was killed, causing David to return to Jerusalem. When Shimei heard that David was returning, he gathered great men and servants from Saul’s house and crossed over Jordan to meet him. With shame, he prostrated before David, recognized his sin, and pleaded for mercy (Isa 60:14). David forgave him again. He and his men became his escort and the first to witness his comeback! What a twist!
Friends, are you being mocked and ridiculed because of your present trouble? Have they wrongly accused you and rained curses on you as a result of your predicament? Have men concluded about your future or have said it is your end and you won’t rise again? God, who disappointed Shimei will disappoint them, and they will return to you in shame. Those who despised you shall fall prostrate at your feet. You will have a comeback, and it will be with honour, in Jesus’ name.

Prayer points
1. Father, arise for my deliverance and give me a comeback in Jesus’ name.
2. Father, let them be ashamed and brought to mutual confusion who rejoice at my hurt; let them be clothed with shame and dishonour in Jesus’ name.

Today’s declarations
1. The Lord will raise me up again, and my enemies will be disappointed.
2. Those who laugh at my troubles will return in shame to rejoice with me at my vindication.
