Text: Mark 11:12-14; 20-23
Memory verse:
”So Jesus answered and said to them, “Have faith in God.“
Mark 11:22 NKJV
Doubt is not the absence of faith but the questioning of it. In life, we are sometimes faced with situations that make us to think that what we have believed God for may not eventually come through or if God can ever make it possible.
In Mark 11:14, Jesus cursed the fig tree and said to it, “Let no one eat fruit from you ever again.” And His disciples heard it.“ They heard it with their ears but they questioned in their hearts, the possibility of the tree withering. They would have thought, “Is it possible for anyone to end the life of a tree by merely speaking?” They had seen Him give life to the dead but they had not seen Him take life away from the living. They heard but they doubted it. They probably were afraid to express their doubtful thoughts, so they decided to choose the ‘wait and see’ approach. Then, as they returned through that same route in the morning and saw the fig tree completely withered, Peter bursted out in surprise and said, “Rabbi, look! The fig tree which You cursed has withered away.” (Mark 11:21). The NLT puts it like this, “Peter remembered what Jesus had said to the tree on the previous day and exclaimed …” (Mark 11:21 NLT). He was shocked, so he exclaimed. Their hidden doubt was revealed by this outburst. Your doubt will always be expressed by your words.
Jesus thus taught them the lesson of life about faith in Mark 11:22-23. As long as your faith is not stained with doubt, you will not only be able to cause an unwanted growth to wither, you will also be able to relocate problems by merely speaking to it. The disciples looked at the nature and size of the problem and thus questioned the possibility.
Friends, have faith in God. Never question God’s ability or His words. Never allow any situation to make you quit trusting Him and His Word. Never allow doubts to stain your faith. True faith does not look at the nature or size of a problem but the nature and size of our God. Our God is supernatural in nature and mightier than anything or anyone in size. He is the Almighty, the All-powerful, the All-knowing and the All-present. He can change the unchangeable and reverse the irreversible. He is unstoppable and beyond the limits of space and time. He is the God of all impossibilities and of awesome wonders. Hallelujah!
