Text:: Genesis 3:1-8
Memory verse:
“I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.” Philippians 4:13
Hippocrates, the father of medicine said, “Let food be thy medicine and medicine be thy food”. Foods have healing benefits, disease prevention benefits, help the elderly and positively impact the outlook. However, it’s not just about eating but eating wisely and intelligently.
Wise and intelligent eating is choosing food based on its health benefits rather than of taste. Always ask before eating any food, ”What are the health benefits?” instead of, “Is it sweet to taste?” Not all foods that are sweet to your taste are healthy for your body, just as all foods pleasant for the eyes are not necessarily good for your life. “So when the woman saw that the tree was good for food, that it was pleasant to the eyes, and a tree desirable to make one wise, she took of its fruit and ate. She also gave to her husband with her, and he ate.” (Gen 3:6). Pleasant for the eyes but deadly to destiny! For example, fast foods, refined sugars, sweetened beverage drinks, fatty foods and snacks, fatty meats and artificial seasonings have been known to be hazardous to health.
Some claim they can’t tolerate unsweetened foods and drinks. God has created us with taste buds that can easily adjust to any new taste. So, the problem is not really with the taste but with the mind. Once you convince your mind about it, your taste will respond appropriately. It’s also about the value you place on your health. If you value it, you will find a way and if you don’t, you will find an excuse (Phil 4:13). You simply find excuses for things not important to you.
Friends, rather than excusing yourself out of a healthy habit, receive divine enabling to adjust for your advancement. Remember that the best time to choose your foods and drinks is when you have choices. Most often, people whose survival is already being threatened by disease have no choices. Remember, that you eat to live and not live to eat.
Prayer points
1. Father, I receive Your wisdom to use Your gift of food for my well-being rather than my ill-being in Jesus name.
2. Father, I receive Your strength to make necessary adjustments for my health advancement in Jesus name.
Today’s declarations
1. I am not a slave to my taste, so I determine my choice of foods and drinks by their health benefits and not by taste.
2. I eat to live and not live to eat, as those who live to eat may not live long enough to eat enough.
