Text: Acts 4:23-31
“And when they had prayed, the place where they were assembled together was shaken; and they were all filled with the Holy Spirit, and they spoke the word of God with boldness.” Acts 4:31
You will be under strong influence of the Holy Spirit when you pray in tongues often. It’s like a drunk who often returns to drink and always under the influence of the wine.
Speaking in tongues is a means of renewal and refreshing. “For with stammering lips and another tongue He will speak to this people, To whom He said, “This is the rest with which You may cause the weary to rest,” And, “This is the refreshing”; Yet they would not hear.” (Isa 28:11-12).
When you are renewed and refreshed, your spiritual life will be edified, energized and your faith will be built again. “He who speaks in a tongue edifies himself…” (I Cor 14:4). The word, ‘edifies’ means to build up, stir up or charge up. This is what Jude means here, “But you, beloved, building yourselves up on your most holy faith, praying in the Holy Spirit,” (Jude 1:20). Like someone under an influence, when your faith is charged up, you will be bold to speak against ungodliness and to confront any devil. That was what happened to the apostles. Having been threatened not to speak in the name of Jesus again, they went back to their closet, praying in tongues as seen in our memory text of today.
This is the secret. Just as the low power battery of your handset is charged and boosted when you connect it to a power source, so you are, when you pray in tongues. It’s a direct connection to the power source, that is, God Himself. “For he who speaks in a tongue does not speak to men but to God…” (I Cor 14:2).
Friends, praying in tongues removes timidity, fear or carnal boldness and opens for you the door of utterance and spiritual boldness.
1. Father, let me enjoy refreshing and renewal in Your presence as I daily pray in tongues in Jesus
2. Father, build my faith and open the door of utterance and boldness for me as I pray in tongues in Jesus name
1. Praying in tongues is my direct line to God and my connection to the power source
2. Praying in tongues opens to me the door of utterance and spiritual boldness
