Text: Genesis 26:19-22
Memory verse:
“And he moved from there and dug another well, and they did not quarrel over it. So he called its name Rehoboth, because he said, “For now the Lord has made room for us, and we shall be fruitful in the land.”
Genesis 26:22 NKJV
The strongest men in history were made strong by the force of opposition. Your problems are your promotion because they act as your stepping stones to the next level. Whatever irritation your enemy is giving you is also your elevation.
According to our text today, we see this truth in the experience of Isaac.
“But the herdsmen of Gerar quarreled with Isaac’s herdsmen, saying, “The water is ours.” So he called the name of the well Esek, because they quarreled with him.” (Gen 26:20).
Esek means contention. As Isaac’s servants attempted to make progress, the enemies contended with them. There is no shining star today that was not first contended against. The magnitude of the contention against your progress is an indicator of the glory that is ahead of you. Don’t ever allow opposition, disagreement or rejection to make you dump your conviction. Don’t allow man’s refusal to make you surrender your God-given dreams. Don’t ever accept ’no’ for an answer. Don’t accept the verdict of the enemy. Don’t allow the enemy to weary you, rather, you need to weary the enemy. Never give in to discouragement. Rise up again after that fall. Rise up again to walk. You must move from ‘Esek’, the well of contention, to dig another well. Isaac and his servants didn’t give up but went ahead to dig another well where they found water.
“Then they dug another well, and they quarreled over that one also. So he called its name Sitnah.” (Gen 26:21).
Out of deep hatred, the enemies quarreled again with him at this well. So, he called it, Sitnah, meaning hostility. The enemy hates to see you progress. He gets mad when he sees you succeeding. He hates to hear of your family’s breakthrough. He gets sad when you share your new testimonies. That’s why he releases a comeback attack, just to discourage, frustrate and halt that progress. Isaac refused to be frustrated but went ahead to dig another well, in spite of the hostility. Go back and resit that examination. Reorganize your profile and resend that application. Go and speak to that person again.
“And he moved from there and dug another well, and they did not quarrel over it. So he called its name Rehoboth, because he said, “For now the Lord has made room for us, and we shall be fruitful in the land.”
(Gen 26:22).
Friends, no one ever gets to Rehoboth without passing through Esek and Sitnah successfully. To win, you must have an indomitable spirit. Winners don’t allow contentions and hostilities to stop them but they climb on them. At last, at Rehoboth, you will have good reward for all your sweat. Your territory will be enlarged. You will have enough space to expand on all sides. It’s a place of no limitations. You will be compensated for all your labour in the past. Rehoboth is a place of payback. All that have been deprived you or stolen from you will be restored in double. No one will subvert your rights anymore. This time, you will not come back empty. It’s your time of celebration. It shall finally come to pass. Hallelujah! May God take you to your Rehoboth in Jesus name.
Prayer points
1. I frustrate all contentions and hostilities against my progress in Jesus name.
2. Father, please, take me to my Rehoboth in Jesus name.
Today’s declarations
1. I don’t allow contentions and hostilities to stop me but I press on in spite of them.
2. I refuse to be discouraged, because I know that after, contention and hostility, comes my Rehoboth.
