Text: John 9:1-11, 32-33
Memory text:
“Now to Him who is able to do exceedingly abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that works in us,”
Ephesians 3:20 NKJV
Most often, when doctors say, “There is not much we can do over the case”, they are speaking of the limits of medicine. It’s another way to say that the condition is beyond what treatments, surgeries, or medications can realistically improve.
In most cases, people get afraid and troubled when they hear such. We have put health professionals in the place of God, with whom nothing will be impossible. Doctors are humans with limitations. Even the most skilled, experienced, and compassionate doctors are still working within the limits of what medicine can do right now.
“But Jesus looked at them and said, “With men, it is impossible, but not with God; for with God, all things are possible.”” (Mark 10:27).
It means humans can’t do all things: only God can. The impossibility of humans to address all health issues is based, first, on the fact that there are some diseases that are still not fully understood or have no reliable cure. Secondly, the available interventions may cause more harm than good. Many have died as a result of the side effects of the procedure or drug administered. Thirdly, what works for one person might not work for another, causing different responses to medications. Furthermore, doctors are not all-knowing; they rely on evidence, science, and what has been tried before. All these have their own limitations.
So, when doctors say they have tried all they could, they have not said anything new. They have only confirmed what the Word of God says, “There are some things that people can not do” (Mark 10:27 CEV). Impossibility is with humans, not with God. God’s wisdom begins where man’s wisdom ends. Charles Spurgeon said, “Man’s extremity is God’s opportunity.”
God is all-knowing. He doesn’t need any investigation to know the cause of a medical condition. He doesn’t need to study, research documents, or consult anyone. He can diagnose any condition and address with precision. No one knows the creature more than the Creator. He made us and knows the uniqueness and strength of each person.
Friends, next time you hear a medical professional tell you that, “There is not much we can do”, don’t be afraid. Thank God that His Word is being confirmed and ask Him to step into the situation.
Prayer points
1. Father, I shift my hope from mortal man to You. Please step into my situation and show Yourself as the God of all impossibilities, in Jesus’ name.
2. Father, start from where man ends and do much more than I can ever ask, think, or even imagine by Your power that works in me, in Jesus’ name.
Today’s declarations
1. I see health professionals as just being human and confirming God’s Word when they say, “There is not much we can do”.
2. I will never allow the limitations of man to plant hopelessness in me. God begins where man ends. I shift my confidence from limited man to the Unlimited God! Hallelujah!
