GOD GIVES A RESTART (2)

GOD GIVES A RESTART (2)

Text: Lamentations 3:18-26
Memory text:
ā€œThey are new every morning; Great is Your faithfulness.ā€
‭‭Lamentations‬ ‭3‬:‭23‬ ‭NKJV‬‬

God’s mercy doesn’t expire. It’s limitless and infinite. Man runs out of time, but God never does. That is why, even though July is a month of perfection, yet it doesn’t end God’s mercy over your life. Rather, another cycle of God’s mercy begins with the breaking of another day.
According to our text, it is possible to begin to lose hope when one has grown past a certain age; when one has missed or exhausted opportunities; when one has missed a season; or when one has failed. It was in the midst of these kinds of hopelessness that Jeremiah remembered the endless mercy of God. A restart is guaranteed because God’s mercy is new every morning. This remembrance triggered hope in the midst of such hopelessness. ā€œYet I still dare to hope when I remember thisā€ (Lam 3:21 NLT).
Unlike human mercy which is like a candle that burns out, God’s mercy is like the sun, which rises again and again, without fail.
Abraham and Sarah’s bodies were judged by their ages as being ’dead’ yet God’s mercy set aside the verdict to make them the father and mother of nations. What about Zechariah and Elizabeth? They were described as ā€˜stricken in age’, yet God gave them a restart (Rom 4:19; Luke 1:7).
Also, while God doesn’t get excited with His children failing Him yet because of the nature of His mercy, our failures don’t truncate His plans and purpose for our lives. No matter how dark the night may be and how much we have wasted His mercy, it is reset at the break of the day. Peter denied Jesus three times and deserted Him. He felt so bad that he didn’t have time to apologize before His crucifixion. Yet mercy sought after him to give him a great restart and a second chance to lead the early church. The angel said to the women at the tomb after Jesus’ resurrection, ā€œBut go, tell His disciples—and Peter—that He is going before you into Galilee…ā€ā€ ‭‭(Mark‬ ‭16‬:‭7‬).
He didn’t mention the names of John, James or any other but Peter. God’s mercy is greater than your messes. God’s mercy doesn’t wait for you to come but runs after you to meet you where you are, not where you should be, just like the father of the prodigal son who saw him at a distance and ran towards him (Luke 15:20).
Friends, neither time, age, failure or anything is final in your life when God’s mercy is involved. Instead, His mercy turns endings into new beginnings. Mercy resets your life. It gives you a restart. Hallelujah!
