Text: Matthew 7:9-11; Luke 18:5-7
Memory verse:
“If you then, being evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father who is in heaven give good things to those who ask Him!”
Matthew 7:11 NKJV
The opposite of light is darkness, good is bad, up is down and white is black. What about the opposite of God? Some call it satan while others call it man. No. The opposite of God is nothing. God does not have an equal. He is far above others; far beyond comparison (Isa 40:25).
Since God is far above any other, He can also do incomparably much more than any other. The parable of the widow and the unrighteous judge is not meant to compare God with the wicked judge but to show us that God will do much more. For if a wicked judge can sometimes do good even from bad motives, how much more will the just God do good! Remember that the wicked judge granted the widow’s request just to keep her from pestering him.
If a wicked judge can stand up for a nameless widow, how much more will the righteous Judge defend His elect, who are named after Him and whom Christ died for! (Rom 8:33). If the wicked and merciless judge could be overcome by the pestering of the widow, how much more will the good and most merciful God be pleased by those who express their faith in Him! It’s faith that pleases God (Heb 11:6).
God will do far much more than the wicked judge or any mortal. Parents have been known to sell their houses, cars, assets and obtain loans to meet the needs of their children. This is commendable, but God will do much more for us, according our memory text.
Also, God gives much more life, health, and wealth to every believer. “For if by the one man’s offense death reigned through the one, much more those who receive abundance of grace and of the gift of righteousness will reign in life through the One, Jesus Christ.” (Rom 5:17). You should no longer be at the mercy of sin, death, sickness, or poverty, but you should reign over them. Salvation changes our status from slaves to sons. To reign means to be in charge or to be in control. Thus, we bind and cast out devils. We don’t take permission from the devil to unlock his prison and to free the oppressed. We pick up devils and trample on them without being hurt. Adam’s blood put us into slavery but Jesus’ blood sets us free and raises us as masters far over and above our former master! Much more, indeed!
Friends, you have much more in God. He will do much more than the wicked judge or any other can do for you. Hallelujah!
