Text: Judges 14:1-3
Memory verse:
āHe who is often rebuked, and hardens his neck, Will suddenly be destroyed, and that without remedy.ā

Talents have the tendency to make the possessor think he or she has it all and canāt learn from anyone. What a deception! Sydney Harris said it all in his word, āA winner knows how much he still has to learn, even when he is considered an expert by others; a loser wants to be considered an expert by others before he has learned enough to know how little he knows.ā
Many years ago, after a powerful Holy Spirit ministration at the Full Gospel Business Menās Fellowship regional convention, one of our fathers in the faith requested that I see him. Meeting him a day after, he appreciated the grace of God on me and then pointed out to me something improper, which I did during the ministration. He said that the Holy Spirit is not an angel and shouldnāt be commanded. I didnāt know I was doing that until he called my attention to it. I was very glad that he corrected me, and he earned my respect more than ever afterward.
You see, there are people who canāt be corrected and who will take offense if you did, considering it as sheer jealousy.
Some young people are so impatient to learn. As a result of the little grace on them, they become so proud. A young lady once said to her parents, āYou know I am a minister now so you better be careful the way you talk to meā Samson was so deceived by his anointing that he lost manners and became disrespectful to his parents. See how he responded to his parentsā counsel. “She is the one I want you to get for me. I like her.” (Judg 14:3). Later on, he ate honey from a dead lion, defiling his Nazirite vow; and also deceitfully gave his parents, defiling them too! (Judg 14:8-9). What a disregard! No wonder he crashed at last! Talent without attitude is a time bomb!
Some adults also think that spiritual things are done by age and worldly experience, and so, they refuse to humble themselves in order to learn. They want to serve God in their own terms and lead the church with their carnal knowledge. That was the mistake David made that cost him the death of Uzzah. He got advice on how to move the ark from the influential people in Israel instead of the priests, who knew the mind of God(1 Chr 13:1-2). Spiritual works must be led by spiritual minds.
Friends, humility, and teachability are great attitudes that will help you maximize your talents. May you not crash, in Jesusā name.
Prayer points
1. Father, please give me a humble and teachable heart in Jesusā name.
2. Father, let me never take offense at correction, lest I crash suddenly, and my talents are wasted in Jesusā name.
Todayās declarations
1. No matter how talented or gifted I am today, I know I still have much to learn.
2. Humility and teachability will enhance my talents, take me to the top, andĀ keepĀ meĀ there.
