“After these things I looked, and behold, a door standing open in heaven. And the first voice which I heard was like a trumpet speaking with me, saying, “Come up here, and I will show you things which must take place after this.””
Revelation 4:1 NKJV
Do you know that God has something better for you than your present spiritual experience? Some people have become so comfortable with where they are. They have no desire at all for the greater glory before them. To get to heaven and discover that it was possible to have lived far beyond the life that you lived here on earth would be an unimaginable regret! Mark Twain once told a story about a man who scoured the planet looking for the greatest general who ever lived. When the man was informed that the person he sought had already died and gone to heaven, he made a trip to the Pearly Gates to look for him. Saint Peter pointed at a regular-looking Joe. “That isn’t the greatest of all generals,” protested the man. “I knew that person when he lived on Earth, and he was only a cobbler.” “I know that,” said Saint Peter, “but if he had been a general, he would have been the greatest of them all.
According to our memory text, God told John to “Come up here”. It was a call to leave the level he was to a higher ground, where he would be shown things that would happen hereafter (Rev 4:1). It was a call for John to get insight into the purpose and plans of God.
God also called Moses to come up to the mountain. “Then the Lord said to Moses, “Come up to Me on the mountain and be there; and I will give you tablets of stone, and the law and commandments which I have written, that you may teach them.”” (Exo 24:12). This was his sixth of eight ascents. There, he received the stone tablet, instructions for the people, and on the building of the tabernacle and on various issues.
Our Lord Jesus also took three of His disciples to the top of a mountain where He was transfigured. They saw His glory in a different form, and His divinity was confirmed to them.
For you to experience a deeper relationship or to have a new experience with God, you need to leave where you are to ‘come up here’. For you to know the depths of the heart of God involves a ‘come up here’ to meet Him. God Himself is extending that invitation to you.
Friends, don’t rest at the good when you can strive for the better and the best. There is a higher ground in God for you. Your greater realms of glory are in your ‘coming up here’. Welcome to your month of higher ground. May this month and this season mark a new experience in your spiritual walk, in Jesus’ name.
Prayer points
1. Father, I long for a deeper walk with You. Please, take me to a higher ground in the realm of glory, in Jesus’ name.
2. Father, I refuse to settle for less than what You have destined for me, in Jesus’ name.
Today’s declarations
1. I have God’s invitation to come up here, and the door to a new experience is opened for me.
2. I do not stop at the good, but I strive for the best that God has prepared for me.
