Text: Isaiah 9: 6-7
Memory verse:
Memory verse:
“For unto us a Child is born, Unto us a Son is given; And the government will be upon His shoulder. And His name will be called Wonderful, Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.”
Isaiah 9:6
Wonderful is the first in the list of the names of Jesus mentioned in Isaiah 9:6. Wonderful means something incomprehensible, that is, beyond human understanding or something that causes one to be full of wonders. When Samson’s father asked the LORD what His name was, the angel of the LORD responded, “Why do you ask my name, seeing it is wonderful?” That is, “Why do you ask my name, since it is beyond your understanding?” (Judg 13:18).
Anything that is wonderful is astonishing, marvellous and miraculous. Jesus’ birth is wonderful. No birth is ordinary but Jesus’ virgin birth is unique because it stands as the biological miracle of all history. “Mary said to the angel, “I am a virgin. How, then, can this be?”
(Luke 1:34 GNT).
It was mind blowing when He brought the threatening stormy wind under control. “They were in absolute awe, staggered. “Who is this, anyway?” they asked. “Wind and sea at his beck and call!” (Mark 4:41 MSG).
What about the unbelievable but yet undeniable healing of the man born blind (John 9:32).
The name of Jesus is our tool for a life of wonders. That name triggers wonders. His name carries His power and authority.
“by stretching out Your hand to heal, and that signs and wonders may be done through the name of Your holy Servant Jesus.” (Acts 4:30). Wonders make your life wonderful.
