Text: Exodus 14:1-9
Memory text:
“By faith, they passed through the Red Sea as by dry land, whereas the Egyptians, attempting to do so, were drowned.”
Hebrews 11:29 NKJV
Sometimes, while driving, your GPS suddenly reroutes you to a longer road. You get annoyed because it’s slower, unfamiliar, and feels unnecessary. But you don’t know what the GPS knows: there is an accident ahead, a collapsed bridge, a blocked road, or a dangerous bend. What feels like a delay is actually protection.
God’s leading works the same way.
God didn’t lead the children of Israel through the traditional route, that is, through the land of the Philistines, which was guarded and short. Rather, He led them through the long route. “…God did not lead them by way of the land of the Philistines, although that was near; for God said, “Lest perhaps the people change their minds when they see war, and return to Egypt.”” (Exo 13:17).
It was also a difficult route: a dead end. Having led them through the long route, they got to the edge of the desert, and He told them to encamp before Pi-Hahiroth, which was opposite Baal Zephon. Specifically, they camped in between Migdod and the Red Sea, in between two impermeable mountains, with the Red Sea in front. While they were camped and still considering what to do, they looked behind them to see Pharaoh’s army coming after them. It was not a detachment but a full military force. They consisted of 600 choice chariots, which were the elites, fastest, strongest chariots at that time and all the other chariots of Egypt, which mean the entire national chariot force. He mobilized every chariot available to pursue them and force them back (Exo 14:7). His army also included horsemen, that is, mounted soldiers riding horses, which were for speed and intimidation (Exo 14:9). They also included foot soldiers (Exo 14:28).
God led Israel to this dead end to show that the end of human possibility is the beginning of divine capability. Where man sees a wall, God builds a doorway.
Friends, when God positions you where no man can help, it’s because He wants the glory no man can share. He wants you to stop depending on your strength and start depending on His. He is preparing a testimony that will outlive you. Has your long years of waiting and efforts ended in a fix? Is shame stirring at you? To someone reading this devotional, the WayMaker will show up for you this season to the surprise of your adversaries, in Jesus’ name.
Prayer points
1. Father, make a way for me in my present situation to show me that the end of my ability is the beginning of Your miracles, in Jesus’ name.
2. Father, turn every impending shame into glory and every impossibility in my life into a stage for Your glory, in Jesus’ name.
Today’s declarations
1. God’s glory will shine through my most impossible situations.
2. My “dead end” will become my “new beginning.”
