Text: Judges 16:15-21
Memory verse:
”And others save with fear, pulling them out of the fire; hating even the garment spotted by the flesh“
Jude 1:23 KJV
Can you still remember this kindergarten song, “Fire on the mountain, run, run, run”? Sexual sin is the fire that all must run from. You shouldn’t play with the fire, and neither should you underrate its effect. Many have become casualties of the same sexual sin they were trying to rescue someone else from. Many homes and many leaders have been ruined in this process. Out of pity, they have become pitiable; out of mercy, they have become miserable! They threw away caution and sat comfortably on the coal of fire. ”Can a man take fire to his bosom, And his clothes not be burned?“ (Prov 6:27). Did you notice the key counsel that our memory text gives? The NLT has it like this, “…do so with great caution, hating the sins that contaminate their lives” (Jude 1:23b).
Sexual sin is a reducer. It turns the rich life into a shadow of himself or herself. “For a prostitute will bring you to poverty, but sleeping with another man’s wife will cost you your life” (Prov 6:26 NLT).
It is a deceiver. Its victims consider themselves to be smart enough to operate without anyone knowing, including one’s spouse. It paints a beautiful picture of a secure and blissful future in sin! So was Samson blinded on the lap of Delilah! (Judg 16:19; Prov 7:21-23).
It’s a ‘disgracer and shamer’. Shame and disgrace are the guaranteed future of all unrepentant fornicators, adulterers, rapers and sex abusers. “He will be wounded and disgraced. His shame will never be erased.“
(Prov 6:33 NLT).
It is a predator. It hunts strategically for the soul of its victims. It uses baits such as gifts, care, words, and compliments. “…And the immoral woman hunts [with a hook] the precious life [of a man].” (Prov 6:26 AMP).
Sexual sin is a killer and destroyer. It steals, kills, and destroys. It steals glory and kills untimely, but destruction in hell is its ultimate goal (Prov 6:32; Rev 2:21-23).
Friends, grace does not excuse you from fleeing and watchfulness while you pray. May you and your loved ones never be victims of sexual sin.
Prayer points
1. Father, let me be devoted to Your fear and let this fear keep me from temptations, in Jesus’ name.
2. Father, please rescue the lives and homes of our loved ones that satan is ravaging through sexual sin, in Jesus’ name.
Today’s declarations
1. Once there is fire of sexual sin on my mountain, I run, run, and run!
2. While I rescue others from the fire of sexual sin, I do it with fear and caution lest I be overcome by the same sin.
