LAUGH YOURSELF TO HEALTH

LAUGH YOURSELF TO HEALTH

Text: James 1:2-8
Memory verse:
“My brethren, count it all joy when you fall into various trials,”
‭‭James‬ ‭1‬:‭2‬ ‭NKJV‬‬

Ever before the medical sciences discovered that laughter and joyful life have healing power, God has already said it in His word. Proverbs 17:22 says, “A merry heart does good, like medicine, But a broken spirit dries the bones.”. The GNT brings it home – “Being cheerful keeps you healthy. It is slow death to be gloomy all the time.” ‭‭(Prov‬ ‭17‬:‭22‬ ‭GNT‬‬). Cheerfulness works just like medicine. It does good to the body. It delivers health but sadness is a slow killer. So, laughter is God’s prescription for good health. Dr. Jackson says, a renowned neurosurgeon once said “God built in mechanisms to heal our imperfect, earthly bodies. Laughter is one of them.”
I once read the story of a man who was diagnosed with a terminal disease. Rather than giving up hope and living the rest of his life in hopelessness and sorrow, this man, who knew the scriptures, decided to choose joy and laughter. So he spent hours every day watching funny episodes on television, laughing and laughing. Amazingly, this man recovered.
Neurologists have discovered that laughter elevates the natural hormones, endorphins, in the body while it drastically drops cortisols and adrenaline. Endorphins are natural pain killers while cortisols and adrenaline are stress inducing hormones. Endorphins increase the blood flow, lowers your blood pressure and boost your immunity, which invariably helps you to fight disease in your body. Endorphins are natural anti-depressants.
“A merry heart makes a cheerful countenance, But by sorrow of the heart the spirit is broken.”
‭‭(Prov‬ ‭15‬:‭13‬). Sadness does more evil than you think. Frowning your face and looking morose under a heavy burden destroys your immunity and exposes you to diseases. Sadness dries up the bones.
The word of God is full of words of wisdom for your health. Friends, choose to be joyful in every situation. Choose to laugh at the devil, like God laughs at him (Psa 2:4). Count the trials “all joy” (Jam 1:2). It costs you less to laugh than to frown. Use your free, available and accessible divine provision for your health and healing today.
