Text: Hebrew 11:17-19
Memory verse:
“He who calls you is faithful, who also will do it.”
I Thessalonians 5:24 NKJV
Faithfulness is God’s trademark. When faithfulness is removed from God. He ceases to be God and becomes a mere man (Num 23:19).
God is happy when your words and actions declare His faithfulness. For example, when God told Abraham to go and sacrifice Isaac, his only son whom he loved, Abraham didn’t delay a minute before he stepped out. His action, without words, proved that he considered God to be faithful. It declared that, sacrificing Isaac, couldn’t stop God’s promise and Isaac, to be the heir of the promise. Losing his only son, the son of his old age and the heir of the promise didn’t make him doubt God and His promises. He believed that the One who made His promise come through at his old age by giving him a son could also raise him from the dead. Abraham counted God faithful!
Likewise, Noah declared the faithfulness of God by his huge sacrifice immediately after coming out of the ark (Gen 8:20). Coming into the new and empty world, the first thing anyone would have been bothered about was how to preserve what he or she had and to multiply it for the future. Noah did the opposite. Even though he knew that the clean animals were domesticated and could be kept for breeding, he still sacrificed such a large number to the Lord. He did it because he believed that God was good and that He was able to meet his needs. He was so confident that He was able to give him much more than he had offered. His sacrifice proved that he trusted God, who had saved him from the flood to sustain him after the flood.
Friends, your giving speaks so much of your trust in God. You may say that God is faithful by your words, but your actions are more honest than your words. Do your actions declare the contrary? You cease to trust Him when you begin to walk in your sense knowledge rather than walking in faith. Does your giving reflect faith or fear? Does it show that you are trusting God and that He will keep His promises?
