Text: John 14:12-14
Memory verse:
”If you ask anything in My name, I will do it.“ John 14:14 NKJV
Do you know that there is no place in the New Testament where the scriptures say we should pray that God will deal with the devil for us? That happened frequently under the old covenant, but the New Testament believers used their blood-purchased authority and the authority in the name of Jesus to confront the devil. They didn’t ask God to do what He had given them power to do. This is what we should also be doing.
The word ‘ask’ in our text does not mean to make a plea but to ‘demand’. It has nothing to do with prayer. The Greek word translated ‘ask’ is demand. ”And whatever you ask in My name, that I will do, that the Father may be glorified in the Son. If you ask anything in My name, I will do it.“ (John 14:13-14).
This could also be written this way, “Whatever you demand in my name, I will do it”. Notice that it doesn’t say, “Whatever you ask the Father in my name”, else it would have meant a prayer to the Father. For example, John 16:23 says, ”“… Most assuredly, I say to you, whatever you ask the Father in My name He will give you.“
However, in John 14:13-14, you are making a demand as if Jesus were here Himself. You make demands in His name, knowing that all power and authority invested in Jesus is in His name.
Some believers think that this scripture is talking about making a demand on the Father. No, we are to ask from our Heavenly Father and not make demands on Him. God is good and wouldn’t hold back what He has given us. Rather, the devil is an opposer and an adversary who derives joy in holding back our benefits like he did to Daniel (Dan 10:12-13). So, we are demanding that the devil take away his hand from what belongs to us, like our peace, joy, family, health, finances, and so forth. We are demanding our right from the devil. We are using the authority and power in the name of Jesus to recover our God-given benefits (Phil 2:9-11).
Friends, don’t pray when you are supposed to make demands. The devil submits when you make demands in the name of Jesus and in faith.
Prayer points
1. I break the power of the devil over my life, and I demand that all my stolen goods be restored now, in Jesus’ name.
2. I rebuke the devil in the life of my loved ones, and I demand their salvation now, in Jesus’ name.
Today’s declarations
1. When I make demands in the name of Jesus, I invoke all the authority and power of Jesus.
2. I pray to the Father, but I make demands from the devil.
