Text: 1 Corinthians 10:4-6
Memory verse:
“and being ready to punish all disobedience when your obedience is fulfilled.”
II Corinthians 10:6
The principle of spiritual authority requires that you submit to the authority above you to receive submission of those under you. The first man, Adam was exalted to the highest place on earth and was given authority over all other creations. He had delegated authority of God on earth. However, when he rebelled against God’s authority, all the other creations, including the ground, rebelled against him. This is it – he who is not under authority cannot be an authority.
This is what James 4:7 means. “Therefore submit to God. Resist the devil and he will flee from you.”
The devil is compelled to obey you if you are submitting to God’s authority over you. This is what our memory verse also means. You can only enforce compliance when your own obedience is also complete. If you often observe the lack of authority whenever you attempt to resist the devil, your submission to God may be questionable. Submission is to daily yield to the will and ways of God. Does the Word of God rule in your decisions? Are you still engaged in habitual sins? Does Jesus’ Lordship cover your finance and emotion? Are you obeying the delegated authorities over you? Remember that rebellion to God’s delegated authority is tantamount to rebellion to God.
