Text: Romans 10:6-13
Memory verse:
“For there is no distinction between Jew and Greek, for the same Lord over all is rich to all who call upon Him.”
Romans 10:12
In the midst of poverty, racial prejudice and rejection, George Washington Carver, the son of a slave mother, rose up to become one of the greatest scientists that the world has ever known. He discovered over 300 products from peanuts and 100 from potatoes. From such a humble background and unfriendly culture, he emerged to become one of the most influential men in his time.
Despite the obvious negative conditions, George refused to accept any excuse. On one occasion after he had gained a high school education, which he had paid for mostly by washing and cooking for whites, George was accepted, by mail, to a College in Kansas. On arrival, however, he was rejected because he was a black. In spite of this disheartening setback, George refused to give up. He went on to study in Iowa, obtaining a master’s degree in Botany. Summarizing his experiences he said, “99% of failures come from people who have the habit of making excuses”.
The GNT of our memory verse says, “This includes everyone, because there is no difference between Jews and Gentiles; God is the same Lord of all and richly blesses all who call to him.”
Friends, you have no right to feel inferior to another, be it white or black. No race is specially positioned for success above others. In fact, there is no black or white brain! We all have equal access to the same Lord of all and who richly blesses all who call to Him. George came to know this God at the age of ten and thereafter refused to permit racism and rejection to limit him. Nothing is capable of stopping you, except the ignorance which you allow. Hallelujah!
