Text: Romans 8:28-39
Memory verse:
“There is no fear in love; but perfect love casts out fear, because fear involves torment. But he who fears has not been made perfect in love.”
I John 4:18
The hymn, ‘O Love that will not let me go’, was written by George Matheson. At the age of 20, his fiancée broke up with him when she discovered he was going to go blind. After he eventually became blind, his sister offered to cater for his education. Then, a day came when his sister fell in love and prepared for marriage herself. While George’s whole family left to get ready for the next day’s celebration, he was alone and facing the prospect of living the rest of his life without the one person who had come through for him. While doubtlessly reflecting on his own aborted wedding day, twenty years earlier and in the darkness of that moment, George received inspiration for this hymn, “O Love that will not let me go”. Disappointment couldn’t stop George from fulfilling destiny.
Yes, friends and family may leave but God’s love won’t let you go. !” God told them, “I’ve never quit loving you and never will. Expect love, love, and more love! (Jer 31:3 MSG).
Our memory verse today shows that fear and love are inversely related. As your love for God grows, fear also diminishes until it’s no more. Thus, perfect love drives away all fears. Nothing is strong enough to separate a believer with perfect love from God (Rom 8:37).
So many believers still live under the fear of facing God’s wrath. No, you are no longer under wrath because His blood has justified you (Rom 5:11). Do you fear that God won’t come true for you? There is nothing that you will ever demand from God that will be greater than the gift of His Son, that He already gave (Rom 8:32). He won’t leave you nor forsake you. It’s easier for the mountains to depart and the hills be removed than for His welfare pact for you be broken and His mercy be removed from you (Isa 54:10). It’s much easier for the young lion to go hungry than for you to lack (Psa 34:8-9). I pray that you will be established in God’s love in Jesus name
Prayer points
1. Father, please give me a greater understanding of Your love for me and cause this love to grow into perfection in Jesus name.
2. I cast out the spirit of fear and doubt from me and I receive the Spirit of love and faith in Jesus name.
Today’s declarations
