Text: Psalm 84:5-8
Memory verse:
“A lion, which is mighty among beasts And does not turn away from any;” Proverbs 30:30
I found the “3 feet from gold” story shared by Napoleon Hill very inspiring. During the gold-rush days, a young man went to the West in search for gold. After months of strenuous efforts, he struck gold. He got an equipment to dig further but after few loads, he found no more gold. Thereafter, he decided to quit, having made some more failed efforts and sold all his equipments to a “junk man”. This man, who sought counsel prior to digging from an engineer was told that gold would be found just 3 feet from where the previous miner had stopped. He was right as he extracted millions of dollars in gold ore from the mine. The first miner was literally three feet away from striking gold before he quit!
Our text today is akin to this experience. “As they pass through the Valley of Baca, They make it a spring; The rain also covers it with pools.” (Psa 84:6).
Pilgrims who went to the yearly solemn feast at Jerusalem encountered various obstacles along the journey. The valley of Baca means the place of weeping and tears. It was so dry that the pilgrims could dig many wells without finding water. In the process, some got discouraged, quit digging and turned back while some, determined to be at the feast kept digging until they found water. God also blessed their efforts by giving them rain. Only those who persevered got to the feast and were blessed.
Perseverance is the ability to keep doing something in spite of the obstacles. No one ever succeeded in life who didn’t persevere. God is never pleased with quitters . “… if any of them turns back, I will not be pleased with them.” (Heb 10:38 GNT)
Friends, don’t ever quit. Those last 3ft may be the toughest but you may just be near your ‘gold’! You may just be near the spring of water! You may just be near your long awaited testimony! Hallelujah!
