Text: James 4:13 – 15
Memory verse:
Memory verse:
“The plans of the diligent lead surely to plenty, But those of everyone who is hasty, surely to poverty.” Proverbs 21:5
If a man doesn’t know where he is going to, you can be sure that any road will take him there. Planning is a way of God and tells where you are going and how to get there. It is the step by step actions that lead to your vision. It’s often said that, he who fails to plan has also already planned to fail.
Our God is a strategic planner and you can see that in the creation project. The orderliness and step by step actions in creation show that He took time to plan. He created light before any other thing. He made sure that everything was in place before He created man. What a master planner! Do you know that He still has great plans for you? “For I know the plans I have for you,” says the Lord. “They are plans for good and not for disaster, to give you a future and a hope.” (Jer 29:11 NLT)
If God is such a great planner, you can be sure that He won’t be against His children when they make plans. He even charges us in His word to learn about planning from the ants (Prov. 6:6-8). He also warned us of the gross implications of not making plans (Prov 21:5; Luke 14:28). However, believers must not plan without God. This is what our text today teaches. Even though God wants you to make plans, you must still submit the plans to Him. Plans succeed when it is in line with God’s leading. Making plans and setting goals without God is arrogance and boasting, which is bound to fail or give you success without fulfillment.
God expects you to make plans for the new year before it comes. Don’t wait till the year starts, because it will almost be too late then. Begin to commit the plans to God from now.
Prayer points
1. Father, I receive Your wisdom and discipline to make plans for the new year in Jesus name.
2. Father, I commit my plans to Your hands that You will bless in Jesus name.
Today’s declarations
1. Planning without God is arrogance and boasting but not planning at all is foolishness and guaranteed failure.
2. Planning helps me to maximize my time and to solve tomorrow’s problem before it comes.
