Text: Luke 10:17-20
Memory text:
“Through You, we will push down our enemies; Through Your name, we will trample those who rise up against us.”
Psalms 44:5 NKJV
A scepter, mace, or staff of office is a symbol of authority and power of a royalty or a parliamentarian. For example, without the mace, the Legislative House can’t take any binding decision. Any action or decision taken in the process is voidable because the law that is being legislated in the house derives its validity from the mace.
Likewise, the function of a monarch is limited or limited only to the use of traditional batons without the staff of office. Although a ruler could have been appointed or elected to the royal position but all his actions will have no legal backing and can be contested without the staff of office. Many monarchs have remained ineffective because of the government delay in presenting them with their staff of office.
These can be related to the believers. We have both positional dominion and the tool of dominion. We received our positional dominion over satan and all his powers when Christ saved us. “and raised us up together, and made us sit together in the heavenly places in Christ Jesus,” (Eph 2:6). You have been elected into divine royalty. It is a position of dominion because you are far above the highest dominion. “…and seated Him at His right hand in the heavenly places, far above all principality and power and might and dominion, and every name that is named, not only in this age but also in that which is to come. And He put all things under His feet, …” (Eph 1:20-22). Since we are seated with Christ, we are also far above satan and his demons and also have all things under our feet. He who is above is above all. Your position determines your dominion. To have something under your feet or to tread upon something is a symbol of dominion. In ancient times, conquerors would tread on the necks of their defeated enemies, symbolizing complete dominance (Josh 10:24). We have complete and unquestionable dominion, and the enemy can’t hurt us anymore (Luke 10:19).
Just like the scepter, mace, or staff of office, our tool of dominion is the name of Jesus. “Lord, even the demons obey us when we use your name!” (Luke 10:17 NLT). Until we know this and apply it, our authority will be limited and contested.
Friends, you enforce your positional dominion over satan and his powers when you use the name of Jesus in faith.
