Text: Genesis 39:1-2
Memory verse:
“Behold, I am with you and will keep you wherever you go, and will bring you back to this land; for I will not leave you until I have done what I have spoken to you.” (Genesis 28:15)
There are some ironies of life. There was a doctor who was so caring about other peoples’ wellness but so careless about his. He indulges in all the unhealthy habits that he teaches people not to practice. Likewise, a pastor who teaches everyone to live right and quick to call other children who are unruly to order but leaves his own children unrestrained.
Unlike these, God is faithful to Himself, to His word and to us. He would have been like the above if He had been faithful to us and not to His word or Himself or vice versa.
God is faithful to Himself. “I have heard people say, “If he deceived everyone, can he deceive himself?” Yes, it is possible to deceive oneself. A person can be in self denial, but not with God. He dwells in light and there is no darkness with Him. ”… Your faithfulness also surrounds You.” (Psa 89:8).
God is faithful to His word. God stands by what He says and defends and never denies His words. You can’t fault God’s word neither can you find any impurity in it. “The words of the Lord are pure words, Like silver tried in a furnace of earth, Purified seven times.” (Psa 12:6). God watches over His words to perform them and not a title of His word will go unfulfilled (Jer 1:12; Luke 16:17).
God is faithful to us. Man can promise and fail but not with God. Even those with good intentions may just not be able to stay true to their words in challenging times. God is like a wrist watch that stays true in all weather. “When you pass through the waters, I will be with you; And through the rivers, they shall not overflow you. When you walk through the fire, you shall not be burned, Nor shall the flame scorch you.” (Isaiah 43:2). He was with Joseph in the pit, at Potiphar’s house, in the prison and in the palace! He was with David in the wilderness and at war; at the mountain top and in the valley of the shadow of death! He was with Jesus at Gethsemane, Gabbatha and Golgotha!
Friends, with this faithful God on your side, know that you have nothing to fear. You are covered from all sides. You have divine comprehensive insurance.
