Text: Psalm 37:1-7
Memory verse: “Trust in the Lord, and do good; Dwell in the land, and feed on His faithfulness.” Psalms 37:3 NKJV
Frank Sonnenberg said, “You are what you eat and the information that you digest” while Michael Corthell added, “It is not just food that creates (and recreates) you, your thoughts and your environment do as well”. This was what David meant when he said, we should feed on God’s faithfulness. “Trust in the Lord, and do good; Dwell in the land, and feed on His faithfulness.” (Psa 37:3).
In His faithfulness, God fed the Israelites with food from heaven throughout their wilderness journey but as soon as they crossed Jordan to the Promised land, the manna ceased. The manna stopped but God’s faithfulness didn’t. In the wilderness, they only needed to go out to gather the manna but in the Promised land, they tilled the land, planted the seed and brought in the harvest.
They were not just consumers of what God provided but accountable for actively planting, tending and producing themselves. They were to trust God by staying in the land that God had given them and do good by living according to His word. They were not to imitate the Canaanites nor “..fret because of the evil doers nor be envious of the workers of iniquities” or “because of him who prospers in his ways, the man who brings wicked scheme to pass” (Psa 37:1,7).
Fretting and envying the wicked are evil. They are not healthy for our minds and do not benefit us. They are feeding oneself with junks. Rather, we are to think about God and “feed on His faithfulness”.Think about God’s reliability and unchanging character. Remember His faithfulness to you and your loved ones in the past. Meditate on His word, contemplate on His ways and remind yourself of His faithfulness to our fathers in the past. It says, “Feed on His faithfulness” and NOT, “Feed on what you get from Him”. God is saying, “Feed on Who I am”. Yes, it’s actually better to know who is supplying your needs than to just know that your needs are met. It is better to know the Giver than to run after His gift.
Friends, today, God is saying, don’t allow the present challenge to cause you to cast away your confidence in Him and to throw away your righteousness or to compromise your integrity. Rather, keep trusting Him and live as children of light in the midst of the perverseness. Don’t go down to Egypt or Sodom but remain in the Lord. Never allow the trial to take you from God’s presence and from His church. Don’t allow it to tamper with your personal relationship with your Source and Sustainer. Don’t gaze at the green grass behind your wall or on the glittering gold outside. Don’t feed yourself with junk food but on God’s faithfulness. God is faithful! Hallelujah!
1. Father, great and incomparable is Your faithfulness and I judge You faithful in all Your ways.
2. I refuse to feed my mind with junks and I receive grace to daily feed on God’s faithfulness in Jesus name.
1. As I abide in the Lord and daily feed on His faithfulness, my supply will be guaranteed.
2. To envy the wicked and the workers of iniquities is to feed on junks.
