PRAISE GOD FOR HIS FAITHFULNESS 6

Text: Psalm 37:1-7
Memory verse: ā€œTrust in the Lord, and do good; Dwell in the land, and feed on His faithfulness.ā€ Psalmsā€¬ ā€37ā€¬:ā€3ā€¬ ā€NKJVā€¬ā€¬

Frank Sonnenberg said, ā€œYou are what you eat and the information that you digestā€ while Michael Corthell added, ā€œIt is not just food that creates (and recreates) you, your thoughts and your environment do as wellā€. This was what David meant when he said, we should feed on Godā€™s faithfulness. ā€œTrust in the Lord, and do good; Dwell in the land, and feed on His faithfulness.ā€ ā€ā€(Psa 37ā€¬:ā€3ā€¬).

In His faithfulness, God fed the Israelites with food from heaven throughout their wilderness journey but as soon as they crossed Jordan to the Promised land, the manna ceased. The manna stopped but Godā€™s faithfulness didnā€™t. In the wilderness, they only needed to go out to gather the manna but in the Promised land, they tilled the land, planted the seed and brought in the harvest.

They were not just consumers of what God provided but accountable for actively planting, tending and producing themselves. They were to trust God by staying in the land that God had given them and do good by living according to His word. They were not to imitate the Canaanites nor ā€œ..fret because of the evil doers nor be envious of the workers of iniquitiesā€ or ā€œbecause of him who prospers in his ways, the man who brings wicked scheme to passā€ (Psa 37:1,7).

Fretting and envying the wicked are evil. They are not healthy for our minds and do not benefit us. They are feeding oneself with junks. Rather, we are to think about God and ā€œfeed on His faithfulnessā€.Think about Godā€™s reliability and unchanging character. Remember His faithfulness to you and your loved ones in the past. Meditate on His word, contemplate on His ways and remind yourself of His faithfulness to our fathers in the past. It says, ā€œFeed on His faithfulnessā€ and NOT, ā€œFeed on what you get from Himā€. God is saying, ā€œFeed on Who I amā€. Yes, itā€™s actually better to know who is supplying your needs than to just know that your needs are met. It is better to know the Giver than to run after His gift.

Friends, today, God is saying, donā€™t allow the present challenge to cause you to cast away your confidence in Him and to throw away your righteousness or to compromise your integrity. Rather, keep trusting Him and live as children of light in the midst of the perverseness. Donā€™t go down to Egypt or Sodom but remain in the Lord. Never allow the trial to take you from Godā€™s presence and from His church. Donā€™t allow it to tamper with your personal relationship with your Source and Sustainer. Donā€™t gaze at the green grass behind your wall or on the glittering gold outside. Donā€™t feed yourself with junk food but on Godā€™s faithfulness. God is faithful! Hallelujah!
