Text: 1 Corinthians 14:13-18
Memory text:
“But you, beloved, building yourselves up on your most holy faith, praying in the Holy Spirit,”
Jude 1:20 NKJV
The call to the higher ground is the call to communion. It is a place of deep fellowship with the Spirit. Though important, personal spiritual development and growth do not come through the prayers of supplication, intercession, or warfare but through praying in the Spirit.
Praying in the Spirit, which also means praying in tongues, is praying with the mind of the Spirit. It is yielding yourself for the Holy Spirit to pray His will through you. In this case, your mind is not involved but the mind of the Spirit. Your mind is not useful here; it’s unfruitful.
God laid the foundation of your faith without your contribution, and it was entirely the work of grace. However, you have a responsibility to build on the foundation that Christ has already laid until you become perfect and complete reaching to the very height of Christ’s full standard (Eph 4:13). It’s done in the spirit realm and not in the physical when you pray in the Holy Spirit.
According to our memory text, praying in the Spirit is another realm of prayer that allows you to build your spirit. The AMP puts it like this: “But you, beloved, build yourselves up on [the foundation of] your most holy faith [continually progress, rise like an edifice higher and higher], pray in the Holy Spirit”
When you pray in tongues, you charge up yourself, just like you charge your device whenever its battery is low or flat by connecting it to a power source. Since the Spirit Himself is praying through your spirit, there is a direct connection to the power source, that is, God, which results in strengthening your spirit. This is called edification. “He who speaks in a tongue edifies himself, but he who prophesies edifies the church.” (I Cor 14:4). Speaking in tongues is not for public edification but for personal edification, except it is also interpreted. So, when I pray in tongues in the church, the congregation is only blessed when they understand what I am saying.
When you pray in the Spirit, you pray perfectly and not amiss. It’s the only means to ensure that you pray in the will of God always (Rom 8:26-27; James 4:3)
Friends, spend at least thirty minutes daily to pray in the Holy Ghost, and your spiritual life will be catapulted to a higher dimension.
Prayer points
1. Father, help me to take advantage of the help of the Spirit and to daily yield to Him in my prayers, in Jesus’ name.
2. Father, build and charge my spirit up and move me to the higher dimension in the Spirit, as I pray in the Holy Spirit, in Jesus’ name.
Today’s declarations
1. I build up myself in my most holy faith as I pray in the Spirit.
2. As I pray in the Holy Spirit daily, my spirit is charged, so I cannot slumber or be weak in the Spirit.
