Text: Genesis 14:21-24
Memory verse:
“Bring all the tithes into the storehouse, That there may be food in My house, And try Me now in this,” Says the Lord of hosts, “If I will not open for you the windows of heaven And pour out for you such blessing That there will not be room enough to receive it.” (Malachi 3:10)
John D. Rockefeller, one of the richest men in world history once said, “I never would have been able to tithe the first million dollars I ever made if I had not tithed my first salary, which was $1.50 per week.” He was known to be a tither.
Yes, there is a relationship between tithe and riches. Think about the wealth of the first man that gave tithe in the Bible. “.. the LORD had blessed Abraham in all things (Gen 24:1)
Melchizedek and Abraham called God the Possessor of heaven and earth (Gen 14:19, 22). He owns all heavenly and earthly resources. His riches are incomparable and only such a rich God can make men truly rich. Recognizing God’s blessings in his life, Abraham gave the tithe of all after his victory over the four kings. “And blessed be God Most High, who has delivered your enemies into your hand.” And he gave him a tithe of all.” (Gen 14:20). The Hebrew word for tithe is ‘maaser’
Now, Abraham, who had just given his tithe of all, was too convinced that he would be rich and didn’t want any man to take God’s glory. “But Abram said to the king of Sodom, “I have raised my hand to the Lord, God Most High, the Possessor of heaven and earth, that I will take nothing, from a thread to a sandal strap, and that I will not take anything that is yours, lest you should say, ‘I have made Abram rich’—” (Gen 14:22-23).
The Hebrew word for rich is ‘aser’. Now, when you remove the first Hebrew letter ‘ma’ from ‘maaser (tithe), you will have ‘aser’ (rich). That is ‘aser’ (rich) is in ‘maaser (tithe).
Friends, don’t give tithe to get rich but give tithe with understanding and faith. Give out of revelation and not out of religion to provoke God’s blessing of abundant provision.
Prayer points
1. My Father, the Possessor of heaven and earth, open to me the flood gate of heaven and pour on me abundant blessings in Jesus name.
2. I terminate the curse of poverty in my life and enter into the Abrahamic covenant of riches and wealth through tithing in Jesus name.
Today’s declarations
1. Many people miss the blessing of tithing because they tithe as a religious act and not as revelation.
2. I don’t just tithe to get rich but I tithe because God is great and He is the Possessor of heaven and earth.
