Text: Job 2:1-4
Memory verse:
“Far be it from me That I should say you are right; Till I die I will not put away my integrity from me.” Job 27:5
What is integrity? It is simply doing what you said you would do even when the circumstances in which you said it has changed. It is keeping your commitment and promises at all times and in every situation (Psa 24:4b). Integrity is rare in the world today instead, the slogan, “the end justifies the means” has become the accepted norm. This means, it doesn’t matter where and how you get your success, as long as you get it.
Satan brings affliction to the upright to make them doubt the goodness and the intention of God. Eve was deceived to believe his lies about God and thus lost her integrity, by eating the forbidden fruit. So, was her husband. Likewise, satan attacked Job to cause him to lose his integrity and to set him against God who has boasted so much about him. However, in spite of the affliction, Job maintained his integrity before God. “In all this Job did not sin nor charge God with wrong.” (Job 1:22). Job didn’t accuse, blame or become bitter against God for the affliction. In fact, God was so pleased and impressed that He said to satan, “Have you considered My servant Job, that there is none like him on the earth, a blameless and upright man, one who fears God and shuns evil? And still he holds fast to his integrity, although you incited Me against him, to destroy him without cause.”” (Job 2:3). Did you notice this – “And still he holds fast to his integrity”? Satan gets angry when God makes a boast of any of his children and he moves to attack such in order to cause the person to compromise, sin against God and disappoint Him.
Satan employed different strategies to cause Job to throw away his integrity. He even used his wife and very close friends. His wife advised him to curse God and die but Job maintained his integrity and didn’t sin (Job 2:9-10; 27:5). You need to be careful and be selective with what you hear and who you listen to especially during the time of trials. Watch out for advisers that come with counsels to make you compromise.
Friends, if you maintain your integrity in difficult times, God will be pleased and will restore all your losses. Your latter will surpass your beginning. Receive grace to maintain your integrity at all times and in every situation in Jesus name.
