Text: Galatians 4:1-7
Memory verse:
“But as many as received Him, to them He gave the right to become children of God, to those who believe in His name:”
John 1:12 NKJV
Under the ancient law, children were not allowed to control their father’s inheritance. Thus, the transition from childhood to manhood was so important that the Jews, Greeks and the Romans had an elaborate ceremony to mark a child’s coming of age.
The scriptures describe the believers’ lives as children and servants before salvation and as adults and sons after.
“And that’s the way it was with us before Christ came. We were like children; we were slaves to the basic spiritual principles of this world.”
Galatians 4:3 NLT
The implication is that one has to be a son to be qualified as an heir. A slave or servant doesn’t have such right to inherit the assets of his master. Salvation changes our status from slaves to sons. It doesn’t matter how religious one is, you are a slave until you are adopted into the family of God. God sent Jesus to redeem us from slavery. “God sent Him to buy freedom for us who were slaves to the law, so that He could adopt us as His very own children. And because we are His children, God has sent the Spirit of His Son into our hearts, prompting us to call out, “Abba, Father.” Now you are no longer a slave but God’s own child. And since you are His child, God has made you His heir.” (Gal 4:5-7 NLT).
Everyone who is born again is an heir of God and joint heirs with Christ (Rom 8:17). We have God as our Father and Jesus as our Brother. All that belongs to God are ours also in Christ Jesus.
You see, the problem is that many people want to partake of the inheritance of the family, which is not theirs. That is robbery. Except a slave has been adopted, he remains a stranger to the inheritance.
How can one become a son of God. Confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the death (Rom 10:9-10). This is the act of renouncing the lordship of satan and submitting to the Lordship of Jesus. With this simple act of faith, God gives the right to become the sons of God (John 1:12). Even though God had destined greatness for Paul before his birth, he could not manifest this until he submitted to Jesus’ Lordship (Gal 1:15-16).
Friends, you can’t manifest all that God created you to be without Christ. Salvation is the first step towards the manifestation of your God-given destiny. Are you born again?
Prayer points
1. If you are not born again, confess the Lordship of Jesus now and invite Him into your heart. If you are saved, thank God for your salvation.
2. Pray that you will manifest God’s purpose for your life.
Today’s declarations
1. Salvation is the first towards manifesting my God-given destiny.
2. Christ has redeemed me from slavery into sonship, from stranger to heir of His inheritance.
