SERVICE IS THE LADDER TO SIGNIFICANCE

SERVICE IS THE LADDER TO SIGNIFICANCE

Text: 1 Samuel 9:1-16
Memory text:
“So Joseph found favor in his sight and served him. Then he made him overseer of his house, and all that he had he put under his authority.”
‭‭Genesis‬ ‭39‬:‭4‬ ‭NKJV‬‬

Have you heard someone say, “He is not serious because he doesn’t have a responsibility. If you want him to be active, just give him a leadership position.”? What a negative approach to leadership development. You don’t make someone a leader because you want him to serve, but you make someone who is already serving a leader, to give him a bigger platform to serve. He is, therefore, made a leader not to sit back while others serve. It is not a call to rest from work but for more work. As it is often said, the reward of a good job done is more work. The reward of a good job done is not a retirement.
This is what Paul meant here. “He who is faithful in what is least is faithful also in much; and he who is unjust in what is least is unjust also in much.” ‭‭(Luke‬ ‭16‬:‭10‬). This is a basic principle in leadership. No one is qualified for a greater responsibility who is not faithful in little responsibility.
God chooses people into leadership positions from their service points. He chose David from the sheepfold to lead the people of Israel (Psa 78: 70-72). From gathering sycamore fruits, God chose Amaziah and called him into the prophetic ministry (Amos 7:14-15). According to our text, from the journey to look for his father’s lost sheep , Saul was chosen as the king of Israel.
Do you seek significance or relevance in life? Service is the right way to relevance. It is the ladder to significance. True leaders don’t seek cheap publicity. They don’t pay journalists to write great articles about them or the MC to announce them! Instead, let your servant’s heart and your deeds identify you as a leader among people. Are you an employee? Seek and use every opportunity to serve at your workplace. Are you a student? Seek and use every opportunity to serve in your campus or school. As believers, opportunities to serve abound in your home, in the church, in your neighborhood and everywhere. Don’t evade responsibilities, but embrace them. Be available for service. Don’t serve at your own terms but be accountable and reliable. Joseph climbed the ladder of service in his father’s house, in Potiphar’s house and in the prison to significance, becoming the prime minister of Egypt and the second man in Egypt after Pharaoh (Gen 41:40-44).
Friends always see every opportunity to serve as a ladder to significance.

Prayer points
1. Father, help me never to evade responsibilities but to always embrace them, in Jesus’ name.
2. Father, please, help me to be faithful in my place of assignment, in Jesus’ name.

Today’s declarations
1. Rather than seeking significance or relevance, I will seek and use every opportunity to serve.
2. God is always at the service point to recruit faithful people for leadership positions.
