Text: Isaiah 53:3-5
Memory verse:
“But He was wounded for our transgressions, He was bruised for our iniquities; The chastisement for our peace was upon Him, And by His stripes we are healed.” Isaiah‬ ‭53‬:‭5‬

The “double cure” is a major theme of the hymn, ‘Rock of Ages’, written by Augustus Toplady. Jesus’ single sacrifice purchased both our forgiveness and our healing. Adam’s sin brought spiritual death to man, that is, separation from the life of God and eventually, physical death, sickness and disease. Jesus paid for our sins by serving the punishment but the same punishment bought our healing . “Surely He has borne our griefs And carried our sorrows; …” ‭‭(Isa 53‬:‭4). The word “borne” here is the same as “bear” in verse 11, “…for He shall bear their iniquities”. It means to “lift up, bear away, and remove to a distance.”  The word “sorrows” and “grief” in Isaiah 53‬:‭3 have been mistranslated. “… a Man of sorrows and acquainted with grief…” ‭‭Sorrows originally means “pain”; and grief means “sickness and disease”. Matthew puts it better, ““..He Himself took our infirmities And bore our sicknesses.”” (Matt‬ ‭8‬:‭17‬). ‭‭Thus, the word “borne or bear” is a picture of a scapegoat that went into the wilderness, carrying sin, never to be seen again (Lev 16:21-22). So, Jesus has “carried away, borne away our sin, sickness and our disease.  He has carried them away forever.”
Don’t miss this truth. We were saved when Jesus bore our sins, just as we were healed when He bore our sicknesses and diseases. According to our memory verse, when He was being bruised for our sins, He simultaneously took stripes at His back for our healing. This is what the wine and the bread represent in the communion. If you believed God for your salvation, why can’t you believe Him for your healing? The faith that saved you will also heal you now. Dare to believe!

1. I renounce sickness and diseases and I receive my blood-purchased healing now in Jesus name
2. I am forgiven and healed, so I refuse to take or call back the sickness and disease that Jesus took away from me in Jesus name

2. Since I believe that my sins have been forgiven and that I am saved, I also believe that I am healed
