Text: James 2:14-20
Memory verse:
”What does it profit, my brethren, if someone says he has faith but does not have works? Can faith save him?“ James 2:14 NKJV
One of the greatest mistakes that believers make is to confess their faith in the Word of God but act contrary to their confessions/prayers.
I once read a story about a small village which was suffering from a severe drought. This drought affected almost everything. One day, the village pastor decided to call for a prayer meeting to address the problem and they were to come with a token of their faith. People responded in numbers and came with bibles of different sizes as tokens of their faith. Sure enough, within a short time after the prayer, it began to rain. While the whole crowd was overjoyed, the pastor noticed that among the joyous crowd was a nine-year-old boy, clutching a big umbrella as a token of his faith. When asked why he chose the umbrella as his token, he responded, “Since we were coming to pray for rain, I knew that God would answer our prayer and give us rain before we get back to our houses.” Wow!
This little boy was the only person whose action corresponded with his prayer and words. We should not just say we believe but we must act out our belief. Faith suffers failure when we act contrary to what we prayed about or what we confessed. “My friends, what good is it for one of you to say that you have faith if your actions do not prove it? Can that faith save you?” (Jam 2:14 GNT). Did you notice this? It means, your faith does no good and has no profit or benefit, if it is not backed up by appropriate actions.
I had experienced back pain that lingered for so long. I had it more when I stood up for a very long time during all-night prayer meetings. Having prayed about it, I decided to turn away my attention from it, even though the pain was still there. The alternative was for me to always sit down while others were praying or to stay back at home, after all, I could justify my actions. Instead, even with the pain, I kept standing, walking around and dancing like any other person. One day, I just observed that the pain was completely gone!
Friends, whatever you are trusting God for, let not your actions contradict your confessions/prayers. Fretting and worrying after trusting God for financial provision is a wrong action. A sad and pitiable look after praying for intervention in a bad situation will nullify everything you have prayed about. Are your actions corresponding with your prayers?
Prayer points
1. Father, please help me to be conscious of acting in line with my prayers and confessions, in Jesus’ name.
2. Father, let my faith never suffer failure, rather let it profit and do me good, in Jesus’ name.
Today’s declarations
1. My faith brings me great profit when my actions correspond with my prayers and confessions.
2. I don’t confess the Word of God in a moment and thereafter cancel it unconsciously with my actions.
