Text: 1 John 4:1-6

Memory Verse:
“You are of God, little children, and have overcome them because He who is in you is greater than he who is in the world.”

During a program in a far northern state, as I was ministering in the last night, the power of God was mightily present to deliver. Then, a woman became so violent that she tried to physically attack me. The scene was so terrifying such that everyone in the congregation moved in fear to the back, as if ready to flee. I was left alone at the front with this demon afflicted woman. It was a contest between light and darkness. The fearful congregation was probably watching to see who would win! I knew that fleeing or surrendering wasn’t an option for me. So, I stood up in faith, declaring my victory in Christ, until the demons surrendered and fled, and the woman became peaceful.
Our text today reminds us of the overwhelming victory of the Spirit of Christ over the spirit of the antichrist. The Spirit of Jesus Christ is the Holy Spirit who indwells those who are of God, who are born of God or who are children of God (John 14:17; 1 Cor 3:16; 6:19). The spirit of the antichrist is the god of this age or the prince of this world who dwells in false prophets and those that are of the world.

The use of the phrase, ‘You are of God’ is to differentiate from one who is ‘of the devil or of the world’. Throughout the scriptures, believers are described as ‘being of God, born of God, born again, children of God’ to also differentiate from those who are born of the flesh, who are children of the devil (1 John 2:29; 3:1, 9-10; 5:4; John 1:12-13).
As a believer, you must not forget your divine heritage. Since you are of God, the Spirit of God, that is the unconquerable seed of God is in you. The Holy Spirit who lives in you is greater than satan’s spirit, who is in the world and in his agents.
The phrase ‘you have overcome’ speaks of a past completed victory and a present state of being a conqueror. We are called to share in the victory of our Lord Jesus and to enforce it. That is, the victory has been decided, even while we are still in warfare. By faith, we participate in this victory. “For whatever is born of God overcomes the world. And this is the victory that has overcome the world—our faith.” ‭‭(I John‬ ‭5‬:‭4‬).
Friends, be conscious of your divine heritage in Christ. You are called to be victorious, to prevail, and to gain superiority in the battles of life. The Greater One is in you! Hallelujah!

Prayer points
1. Father, thank You for my divine heritage in You, making me an overcomer, by the indwelling Holy Spirit.
2. Father, help me to live with this understanding that the Greater One, the unconquerable seed of God is in me, in Jesus’ name.

1. I won’t measure my capability by my size, ability, or wisdom but by the Greater One in me.
2. I overcome satan, and its agents because He who is in me is greater than he who is in them.
