Text: Genesis 14:13-24
Memory verse:
âFor what will it profit a man if he gains the whole world and loses his own soul?â

Have you ever wondered why some billionaires and famous people commit suicide despite their fame, empires, and success?
German billionaire Adolf Merckle, who was the world’s 94th-richest person in 2008, committed suicide by throwing himself under a speeding train! Despite the glitz and glamour of fame, many celebrities have been known to take their own lives. A Swedish DJ, producer, and songwriter, Tim Bergling, aka Avicii (which means âthe lowest level of hellâ in Buddhist terms) and who achieved immense fame, success, and wealth, committed suicide with a broken glass in year 2018, at the age of 28!
Although, psychologists and mental therapists have tried to attribute various reasons to it, yet one thing is clear, that is, the blessing of the Lord donât come with sorrow (Prov 10:22). Rather, it gives you peace of mind and increases you. The blessing of God draws you closer to God and not farther away from Him.
This is the truth. Satan will be glad to make you rich and famous, even if you donât solicit for it, as long as he is able to cause you to lose a desire for heaven or take heaven from you. You know that he and his fallen angels are already bound for hell, but he wants many people to still go with him (Matt 25:41; 2 Pet 2:4).
According to our text today, after Abram had rescued Lot and the people of Sodom from the nations who took them captive, the king of Sodom asked Abram to give him the captives whom he rescued and keep the loots for himself. âNow the king of Sodom said to Abram, âGive me the persons, and take the goods for yourself.ââ ââ(Gen⏠â14âŹ:â21âŹ). To take loots of war is to acquire great riches. The king of Sodom wasnât interested in the fact that Abram was going to be richer with the goods. He offered Abraham riches without soliciting for it. That didnât matter to him as long as he could get his people back into sin and bondage. The king of Sodom stands for sin, darkness, and bondage, but Abram stands for righteousness, light, and liberty. Abram gave him the loots and looked up to the riches that come from God.
Friends, donât crave riches. Though God gives riches but riches donât necessarily indicate spirituality. Otherwise, ritualists, cultists, and fraudsters would be said to be blessed by God! Never allow anything, not even riches and fame, to make you lose heaven. Itâs your greatest blessing!
Prayer points
1. Father, please, help me to seek the kingdom of God and its righteousness above any earthly thing in Jesusâ name.
2. Father, I earnestly plead with You, whatever it will take You, please donât let me miss heaven, in Jesusâ name.
Todayâs declarations
1. The devil wonât offer me his riches because I wonât bow to him, nor would I trade heaven for anything.
2. Riches donât indicate spirituality because the devil also gives riches to his own.
